Having neurodivergent learners means sometimes you to teach in multiple different ways to ensure that everyone is reaching their goals. One way that we use these tablets in school is as a communication device. This allows for everyone to engage in the lesson who may not speak verbally. One of the most exciting ways that we got to use the tablets is to conduct surveys which was apart of our class community based lesson. As well as to do student friendly research on different topics \r\n\r\nWhen lessons and all work are completed the students will sometimes as to use the tablet to listen to clacking music or play a educational game (ex: ABCmouse, ReadingIQ, and BoddleLearning) for their earning time. Now as the weather is getting warmer, students are using the body wipes when they are sweaty after gym class or recess. They are also learning how to use deodorant. Funny thing is, I was surprised that when some of my students saw the deodorant they knew it went on their underarms and how to use it. \r\n\r\nThe body wipes will be available to students for if and when they need them as well as the deodorant. I had students from two classes help stock the concession stand cart/ bins to get ready for the movie theater. Students were given play money which looked like real money and had to buy a ticket to the movies. A student was working the ticket booth, telling classmates that a ticket cost $5. The customer had to give the $5 bill to the ticket booth worker and receive a ticket. Once everyone was situated in the \"movie theater\", the movie was started and that is when the concession stand opened.\r\n\r\nPictures of the snacks and drinks were laid out on a table so students could easily see what items were available. When they came up to the snack stand they were able to choose the item they wanted by removing the picture off the board and handing it to the concession stand worker and say the name of the item if they were able to. The snack worker was able to then use the picture to help find the item. Once retrieved, the snack worker looked up the price of the item on the chart and told the customer the price. The customer was then able to get a drink the same way and the worker added the price of the drink to the snack price for a total amount. The customer then had to count out their money and give the amount to the cashier. Several students had the chance to be the concession stand worker and liked the job.","fullyFundedDate":1735667045057,"projectUrl":"project/movie-theater-time-purchasing-snacks-to/8775077/","projectTitle":"Movie Theater Time: Purchasing Snacks to Practice Money Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Duwe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2116918"},{"teacherId":6200872,"projectId":8963343,"letterContent":"The care closet is such a vital part of the classroom and has benefits that the students carry with them both inside and outside of the classroom. They know that when they step into the classroom they never have to worry about being hungry or not having access to the things that they like. None of this would have been possible without you. Your generosity, kind heart and thoughtful mind is the reason that my students have access to a fully stocked care closet. Please know that every time that cabinet is opposed your kindness is felt. I modeled how to build one of the compartments/shelves with doors and one of my students was able to complete building the others and stacked them to create the wardrobe. Other students ripped off the plastic of the folding boards as soon as they were out and they were eager to see the cart opened/unfolded.\r\n\r\nLast month our curriculum unit for Activities of Daily Living (ADL) focussed on Dressing and Clothing Care. We learned about clean vs. dirty and sorting clothes. We also worked on folding clean clothing. The folding boards were a hit. It was something new to them and they wanted to use them. The task of folding clothing was new for some of my students and can be difficult for some if not all of them. The 2 different types of folding boards aided students in completing a difficult task. After students folded a clothing item, they placed it on the cart. Pushing the cart to the wardrobe (clothing closet) with the folded clothing was something all the students wanted to do. Once there, students would put the folded clothing away. \r\n\r\nAs the school year continues, we will continue to use the folding boards and maintain an organized wardrobe by folding items that become unfolded in the search for clothing.","fullyFundedDate":1726081360889,"projectUrl":"project/starting-a-school-wardrobe/8628017/","projectTitle":"Starting a School Wardrobe","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Duwe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2116918"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_173","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":201,"numTeachers":92,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":30,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":43,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":"2.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":52.9,"schoolId":173,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 94M the Spectrum School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 94M the Spectrum School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-94m/173"}
