Your generosity brought high-interest, culturally responsive books into our classroom, and the impact on students' confidence and language growth is already remarkable.\r\n\r\nWhat These Books Are Teaching\r\n\r\nThe new texts introduce essential skills for ENL students who are learning English while navigating grade-level content. With these books, students are learning to:\r\n\r\n\t•\tBuild academic vocabulary in science and social studies\r\n\r\n\t•\tUnderstand key concepts such as tools, needs, and wants\r\n\r\n\t•\tUse nonfiction text features labels, diagrams, timelines, and captions to support comprehension\r\n\r\n\t•\tDevelop emotional vocabulary through stories about feelings and community\r\n\r\n\t•\tMake cultural connections through folktales and identity texts\r\n\r\nThese titles offer rich visuals and clear language, giving my students the scaffolding they need to participate fully.\r\n\r\nWhat Learning Looks Like in Our Classroom\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is hands on, interactive, and joyful. Students use the books you provided as models for their own learning projects. \r\n\r\nFor example:\r\n\r\n\t•\tAfter exploring timelines in texts like Ella's Time Line, students created personal timelines to share important events in their lives.\r\n\r\n\t•\tUsing identity texts such as Alma and How She Got Her Name, students made All About Me posters to celebrate their names, cultures, and family stories.\r\n\r\n\t•\tAs we studied tools and community helpers, students examined illustrations, labeled tools, and explained how they meet people's needs.\r\n\r\n\t•\tDuring read-alouds, students point to pictures, use sentence frames, act out vocabulary, and share connections to their own experiences.\r\n\r\nThese activities help multilingual learners build language in meaningful, personal ways.\r\n\r\nWho These Books Are Reaching\r\n\r\nStudents across all language levels are engaging more deeply because the books feel accessible and exciting. Newcomers are using pictures and repetitive language structures to understand stories, while more advanced learners are using the texts to compare cultures, describe their lives, and practice academic speaking and writing.\r\n\r\nThe variety of genres informational texts, folktales, SEL books, and identity stories gives every child an entry point.\r\n\r\nWhy Your Support Matters\r\n\r\nYour donation did far more than place books on a shelf. You helped create a learning environment where multilingual learners feel seen, capable, and proud of who they are. These texts allow students to grow academically while also sharing their voices, cultures, and personal histories.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and supporting their language journey. The box sets on women's history and strong Black women especially sparked meaningful conversations in our classroom about courage, perseverance, and representation.\r\n\r\nWhen the books first arrived, students eagerly browsed through the titles, pointing out familiar figures and discovering new names they had never heard before. Many were drawn to Wonder Women and 100 Women Who Made History, while others immediately picked up biographies of Susan B. Anthony and Ida B. Wells. These resources have already been incorporated into our reading groups and social studies lessons, helping students connect literacy skills with real-world history in an authentic way.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students now have access to diverse role models who show them that they, too, can make an impact on the world. The incentive items you helped provide—like fidget toys, gel pens, and our new reward jars—are making a noticeable difference in how my students engage with their learning and with each other.\r\n\r\nHow we're using the new resources:\r\n\r\nWe've integrated the rewards into our daily and weekly routines to celebrate both academic and social-emotional achievements. For example, students earn tokens for showing kindness, completing challenging assignments, participating in discussions, or helping a classmate. Once they reach certain milestones, they get to choose a reward from our incentive station. One moment that stands out: a student who had struggled with staying focused earned her first gel pen for completing a full week of assignments on time. She beamed with pride and asked if she could write all her notes in that pen from now on!\r\n\r\nStudent reactions:\r\n\r\nWhen the new incentive items arrived, the room lit up with excitement. Students crowded around to see what had been added to our \"treasure box,\" and many immediately started setting goals to earn specific items. With these resources, I've seen students take more initiative, support one another, and bounce back from setbacks with a stronger sense of purpose. Moving forward, we'll be tying incentives to long-term goals—like reading growth and project completion—so students can connect daily effort with long-term success.\r\n\r\nYour support has done more than provide supplies—it's built a foundation of positivity and perseverance in our classroom.
