A well-organized classroom promotes independence and maximizes instructional time.\r\n\r\nFinally, the small vacuum has helped us maintain a clean and welcoming classroom environment. Our carpet area is an important space where students gather for morning meetings, read together, participate in social-emotional learning activities, and take calming breaks. If even one student isn't able to self-regulate, this can cause a 'domino effect' where additional students are unable to attend and focus. However, the resources you provided have helped significantly with promoting attention and focus. For example, if a student starts to become 'upset', they have access to their preferred sensory toy and these calm them almost instantly. It's amazing how something as simple as sensory toys can assist with behavior management and help all my students learn. The students were excited to start playing the games. We now have a designated day that we do structured choice time which entails choosing a board game to play. There have been many benefits from increasing their social skills, turn-taking, strengthening fine motor skills to name a few. \r\n One example is with Guess Who? It has been great for building their vocabulary, inferential reasoning and cognitive problem-solving skills. In addition, it gets the students to pay attention to detail by scanning the faces of the people. The students also take turns asking the questions. Another popular game, in our classroom is Monopoly which is great for using their math skills and improving them.\r\n We just had a family engagement event with our parents. With our speech team we invited the parents to come and participate in structured games. They were able to see how board games utilizes a variety of skills by the students. We used our new board games and also touched upon our emotions and how we might feel if we lose or win. We also discussed what good sportsmanship looks like. It was great day and was not possible without your contributions to our classroom.
