Thanks to your support, we now have resources that will transform how our students can access hands-on science and the outdoors.\r\n\r\nAs soon as the new materials arrived, the students' faces lit up. Many of them couldn't believe these tools were really for them. They were most excited to use the hand lenses, but are really looking forward to the spring when they can use everything outside. Our green team was thrilled to get gloves to really start transforming our outdoor space, and they are really looking forward to using REAL gardening tools to keep our space ready to learn in. \r\n\r\nWe've already begun incorporating the materials into our hydroponics lab. The new tools have allowed them to dive deeper and work more independently. For example, our dual-language fourth-grade students used hand lenses to take very in-depth looks at cucumber plant leaves and were able to discuss some of the structures and functions of leaves. The joy of using neat science tools combined with real-life plants sparked great conversation and observation among students who often struggle to do well. These small moments of confidence and growth are happening every day because of you.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're excited to build on this momentum. The next steps for our green team are to decide how to use the gardening tools, set up an outdoor space where the tools can be easily accessed, and create an outdoor learning lab for all students. They feel seen, supported, and motivated—all because of your kindness.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our classroom. Your contribution sparked joy and opened new learning pathways for every student here.","fullyFundedDate":1750873276805,"projectUrl":"project/seats-for-sprouts-growing-minds-outdoor/9361146/","projectTitle":"Seats for Sprouts: Growing Minds Outdoors","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Reilly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8108917_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y5&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747344781614","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8108917"},{"teacherId":9777991,"projectId":9308637,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to this project. Imagine the frustration of having thoughts, needs, and ideas, but no reliable way to express them. Simple interactions that many of us take for granted – asking a question, sharing a feeling, participating in a classroom discussion – were daily challenges for them.\r\n\r\nNow, thanks to your kindness, the landscape of our classroom is slowly being transformed. For instance, one of my students, who is generally shy, is now trying to communicate his needs using the AbleNet device. Just last week, they used it to tell us that they need to use the bathroom , something they hadn't been able to do before. The joy on their face when they were understood was truly priceless.\r\n\r\nAnother student has also made good progress. With the picture communication board, he can now independently request his favorite activities. This newfound independence has boosted his confidence and engagement in learning.\r\n\r\nBeyond individual successes, the AAC devices have fostered a more inclusive and communicative classroom environment. My students are learning to interact with each other in new ways, building connections and understanding. They are becoming active participants in their own learning and their social interactions.\r\nYour contribution has done more than just provide technology; it has opened up a world of possibilities for my students. You have empowered them to:\r\n * Express their thoughts and feelings: Giving them a vital tool for emotional and social development.\r\n * Participate more fully in classroom activities: Allowing them to access the curriculum in meaningful ways.\r\n * Build stronger relationships with their peers and teachers: Fostering a sense of belonging and connection.\r\n * Gain independence and confidence: Empowering them to advocate for their own needs and desires.\r\n\r\n Your generosity has made a tangible and lasting difference in their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1746699766115,"projectUrl":"project/beyond-the-silence-empowering-non-verba/9311838/","projectTitle":"Beyond the Silence: Empowering Non-verbal Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Campbell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4088064_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746325790372","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lurlene-campbell"},{"teacherId":2615717,"projectId":8839654,"letterContent":"I am the Math Coach for PS7. The passion that this young educator brings to her work is inspiring. The respect that she has for her students and her classroom is admirable. \r\n\r\n Ms. Lubin has 5 first graders and 6 second graders in a bridged self-contained special education class. She is tasked to teach two grade levels for mathematics, no easy task. In order to better structure her classroom and to foster more engagement and support student focus, I asked wonderful donors, such as yourselves, to help. And thank you to your wonderful generosity, Ms. Lubin and. her students received two kidney shaped tables for grouping. \r\n\r\nThe students, teacher, and paraprofessionals, in the classroom were so excited when their new tables were delivered and assembled! One little boy who is non-verbal lit up and started smiling from ear to ear as the materials were unboxed. He waited eagerly to be handed the modeling clay. As soon as he received it he started to relax and calm down. Due to the autism, many of the students have difficulty remaining seated. The weighted vests and the adorable kid-friendly weighted animals were great in helping them decompress and remain calm especially during instruction. Our classroom has become a much calmer and serene environment and it's all due in large part to your generosity. We are forever grateful.\r\n\r\nIn the long run, we hope to gradually remove the weighed vests as scaffolds and teach the students to requests them if they're feeling stressed. Since most are non-verbal, the goal is to have them indicate to us when they need a time out to relax.\r\nOnce again, words cannot express how much we appreciate what you have done for our students.
