During read-alouds and small groups, we also use the books to practice discussing our ideas, making connections, and using evidence from pictures and text to support our thinking.\r\n\r\nReading now happens in many ways throughout our day. Students enjoy listening to read-alouds, reading with a partner, working with me in small groups, exploring books during literacy centers, and choosing books independently from our classroom library. Having books that range from kindergarten through second grade levels means that students can select something that feels comfortable while still being challenged to grow.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding changes has been seeing students who were once hesitant about reading become excited to choose a book. Some students return to the same favorite stories again and again, which helps build their confidence and fluency. Others are especially drawn to books with colorful illustrations, familiar characters, interesting nonfiction topics, or stories they can relate to.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these books are helping my students see that reading is something they can enjoy and be successful at. Every time a student chooses a book, shares something they learned, recognizes a new word, or proudly retells a story, your generosity is making a difference. Many of my students have little access to green spaces, so bringing gardening into our classroom has been such a special experience. \r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students were able to decorate and personalize their planting pots with drawings, stickers, and colorful designs. They were so excited to choose which seeds to plant and eagerly got their hands in the dirt.
