Because of your generosity, our students were given much more than yarn, hooks, and supplies—they were given a place to belong, create, learn, and grow.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement filled the room. Some students had never crocheted before and were eager to learn, while others were excited to improve skills they had already begun developing. Every week after school, students gathered together to share ideas, help one another, celebrate successes, and work through challenges. For many of them, Crochet Club became a safe space where they could relax, express themselves creatively, and build friendships.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donations reached far beyond our classroom walls. Using the materials you provided, students created hats and gloves for individuals experiencing homelessness, hats and hearts for children battling cancer, and handmade items for families in our community who lost everything in a house fire. Watching students realize that something they made with their own hands could bring comfort to someone else was truly inspiring. They learned that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.\r\n\r\nYour support also helped students discover possibilities for their future. Through conversations and projects, they learned that crochet can be more than a hobby—it can be a skill, a creative outlet, and even a small business opportunity. Just as importantly, the club gave students time to connect with peers. As many of our members prepare to move on to different high schools next year, these moments of collaboration, laughter, and friendship became especially meaningful.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and investing in their creativity, confidence, and compassion. The memories, skills, and opportunities your donations provided will stay with them long after the final stitch has been made.","fullyFundedDate":1770774553737,"projectUrl":"project/stitching-warmth-community/10083715/","projectTitle":"Stitching Warmth & Community","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jordan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9905609"},{"teacherId":10246212,"projectId":9693412,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donation. It is appreciated by all my students. The printer has helped my students receive ready-made activities instead of writing it out themselves. Other uses I have gotten out of my printer are: instant printing of self-made daily notes to help out with note taking during sessions, printing visuals for students to refer to during sessions, and scanning student work for archival purposes. The self-calming posters have been placed at student eye-level in front of the classroom and inside the classroom in case students need a visual reminders of self-regulating tools. A couple of my students have benefited greatly from such posters during moments of stress. \r\n\r\nOut of all the items donated, my students have gained the most from the wooden train set and the \"Making Good Choices\" Match up set. The Wooden train set has been used in multiple sessions to create narratives and engage in pretend play all while working on improving turn-taking and social communication skills. The \"Making Good Choices\" set has been used with grades K - 2nd to discuss how to make good choices. The puzzle inspired my students and I to make our own good choices puzzle pieces. \r\n\r\nI want to take this opportunity to thank you once again for donating and helping create a lasting impact on my students. These donations have made great impact on my students social emotional skills. The donation you provided through Donor's Choose had such a positive influence on how my students approach student lead learning and focus.\r\nMany of you use technology like computers and tablets at home, but often the challenge in a classroom is not the device itself, but the surrounding noise and distraction. Our new earbuds and headphones have solved this by creating personalized learning \"bubbles.\" Students can now listen to individualized educational videos, read-alouds, or focused instructional clips without being distracted by classroom activity, making complex tasks more accessible.\r\nWhat excites the students most is the combination of having their own dedicated headphones, and honestly, the snacks! It's difficult to focus on learning when you're hungry. Addressing this basic need has significantly improved their concentration and readiness to learn every afternoon. The true academic benefit comes from having a full stomach and a focused auditory environment.\r\nI've seen particular improvement in students who struggle with transitions and overstimulation. Providing them with these tools gives them immediate control over their environment, helping them regulate and stay engaged. Furthermore, the new storage bin has been a quiet hero for me! By allowing me to organize and label their independent lesson materials clearly, students who often needed assistance with \"Where does this go?\" or \"Where do I start?\" are now accessing their work independently, which is a massive boost to their self-confidence and organizational skills.","fullyFundedDate":1758898896129,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-focus-headphones-snacks-sup/9514537/","projectTitle":"Fueling Focus: Headphones, Snacks, & Supplies for Our Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ferguson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp108970_orig.jpg?crop=560,560,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693623126259","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/108970"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_383","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":637,"numTeachers":77,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":80,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":54.2,"schoolId":383,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 279 Capt Manuel Rivera Junior on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 279 Capt Manuel Rivera Junior","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-279-capt-manuel-rivera/383"}
