It was used to support ALL the ESL students in my school. Incredible.\r\n\r\nBut let me focus on the impact upon my students. \r\n\r\nMost curriculum do not have a strong component for entering to intermediate ESL students, so we have to make it up as we go. This year, I decided to focus on folklore theater. Our first project was the story of the \"Billy Goats Gruff.\" My beginner students were able to write a script together, make puppets and even build their own bridges. That last part may be my favorite. I have students with significant attention deficits on top of being new to English AND illiterate in their home language. But building their own paper bridges kept them engaged and attempting to understand the English directions and even use it themselves. \r\n\r\nThe fourth grade had to write about a hero in their life. We quickly realized that the curriculum we used had some major gaps in it. Beyond the lack of ESL supports, it didn't account for the possibility that many students might not live with their families. It didn't give them clear directions on how to organize and ask questions of their own writing. It didn't include examples or sources for inspiration. We got around that by having the students interview school heroes: their former teachers and the school councilors. Based on the students handwritten notes and the transcript (which was printed for them), they were able write about heroes and interrogate the idea of heroism with authenticity and voice. We had to rewrite the unit and provide new materials with translation. Without the printer you provided, the turn around time to get resources in students hands would have made our incredibly effective pivot next to impossible.","fullyFundedDate":1763062564952,"projectUrl":"project/love-it-print-it/9851355/","projectTitle":"Love It!
