I currently teach 5 to 6 students at a time around a small round table in two different classrooms. It makes for a crowded area where students and their supplies barely fit, and where focus is therefore a challenge. Replacing the round tables with these specialty half-moon tables will enable students to have more space--and a comfortable setting is known for being conducive to learning. These tables will be used specifically for guided reading and advanced literacy activities my English Language Learners need in order to improve their academic skills. As an English as a New Language teacher, I use a lot of literacy materials such as visuals, graphic organizers, and anchor charts, which will be better displayed on a half-moon table. I also try to make my lesson more engaging by using a variety of supports for students, such as dry erase boards. These half-moon tables will allow me to stick dry-erase circles that students will write on, directly on the table.
