Upon receiving the boxes we had been talking about feelings and how we feel when we are treated certain ways. With the box arriving in our room during the discussion it was a perfect teachable moment. The children were curious to know what was in the box and I pretended that I was not going to show them once I opened the box. We talked about how they were feeling. I then began to take out the instruments & when the children tried to touch or peek inside I quickly grabbed the box and said \"no it's mine, you can't have it.\" As you can imagine they were shocked, surprised and a bit upset. I asked how they were feeling about me not sharing or allowing them a chance to look inside. Many said they were sad and that I wasn't being kind. I explained that when we act these ways it hurts peoples feelings. We brainstormed ways we could avoid this in class. I then took out some instruments and we practiced asking for turns and using our manners to ask and being patient when waiting for a turn. We then talked about how they were feeling when I shared and their peers shared the instruments. When our discussion was over I explained that these instruments were given to us from 'kind strangers'. I explained that people who didn't even know us wanted us to have these instruments to help us learn about kindness and much more. The kids were smiling from ear to ear. I explained that they too could help others feel happy by showing kindness when sharing and helping others. Everyone then chose an instrument and we marched around the room singing a sharing song and playing our instruments.\r\n\r\nThe instruments have also helped us in tapping out syllables in our names and words, following rules: when we hear the bongo sound we will begin to clean up, practicing for fire drills using the Chinese gong, and using our sense of hearing to identify different sounds. We are using the instruments to create sound patterns, practicing counting and developing our listening skills. (When you hear the word _ play your instrument.)\r\n\r\nThese instruments and your generosity have made learning in our class a bit noisier but a lot more fun! \r\n\r\nThank you for your generosity and kindness!","fullyFundedDate":1752586479466,"projectUrl":"project/music-is-in-the-air/9224593/","projectTitle":"Music Is in the Air","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCarthy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4285420"},{"teacherId":2609530,"projectId":8840773,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my third-grade ENL classroom with dry erase pockets for centers and printer toner.
