The printed visuals help my students better understand key concepts—especially when we're working on reading skills like main idea, text features, and summarizing. It's been wonderful to see how much more engaged they are when they can hold and annotate printed materials.\r\nA special classroom moment:\r\nOne of our favorite moments was when we printed full-color reading task cards for our \"Reading Detectives\" mystery lesson. The students were thrilled to see their work displayed and to use real printed clues in their investigation. It's sad that students come to school hungry and I love that with your support we are able to help feed them when they do. We have a routine in place now where the breakfast cereal bars are in a container where they first walk in the room. The container is left open so if you want or need one you take it no questions or judgement. Most students take them and will come back and take the whole bin if I'd let them!\r\n\r\nThese breakfast cereal bars are such a hit in my room that that students in other classes are coming by to get them too if they're hungry. My students look forward to these everyday and fight over which is the best flavor. The next step is to get another great healthy alternative for the few kids that don't enjoy the cereal bars. The students were so excited to get more pencils and dry erase markers. \r\n\r\nPencils seem to disappear in at rapid speed in our classroom. It's like some magical creature comes and steals them each night. At lease that's what the kids say. This is also why they are so appreciative of having someone donate more pencils for when they ran out. We also saved some boxes and hid them away to use for state testing (since these are the best brand). \r\n\r\nThe dry erase markers help us the most in math. we can use them to work out our answers on our boards or write on our laminated place value charts. They immediately put them on and wore them (inside) from the time they got them to dismissal. This is my third year doing this project for the fifth grade and the reactions make it so worthwhile.\r\n\r\nOne parent couldn't stop thanking me. She told me that she could stop saving up to to buy her son one and now he wouldn't get sick. Another asked me as I was sorting them if he could still have one even if he had a hat already. The students in the other classes couldn't stop thanking me every time they saw me in the hallway.\r\n\r\nThank you donors for giving these students something so simple but so meaningful and necessary as well! These students (and there teachers and parents) are very grateful they will be able to be kept warm this winter. We keep everything in a two small organizer bins in the back. For my girls we explained the pink bag (from and earlier project!) has been restocked with feminine products for their emergencies.
