Students rotate through hands-on investigation stations where they observe animal features, insect body parts, and ocean creatures using the Lakeshore viewers. One of our favorite moments so far was during our pumpkin and spider investigations where we were able to examine pumpkin parts with the magnifying glasses and tweezers. Their excitement grew as they noticed tiny details in the pulp and seed parts! We also had a great time viewing the different kind of spiders that we researched in class. The room filled with cheers the moment the students saw the new tools. Several students immediately asked if they could \"be real scientists today,\" and many rushed to try the viewers and magnifiers. Some students who are typically quiet or hesitant in new activities were among the most enthusiastic—eager to take turns, share discoveries, and explore together. Their curiosity was instant and genuine, and the materials created an immediate spark of engagement. These materials will continue to be used throughout the year during STEM centers, nature walks, and animal research projects, helping students build confidence and develop the habits of curious, capable scientists.","fullyFundedDate":1758382986741,"projectUrl":"project/a-closer-look-at-science/9722736/","projectTitle":"A Closer Look at Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cacho","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4501129_orig.jpg?crop=768,768,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756655132221","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4501129"},{"teacherId":3768514,"projectId":2426313,"letterContent":"The moment my students walked in and saw the new flexible seating options, they froze, looked around, and then burst into excited chatter. Many of them had never seen a classroom designed around their comfort and autonomy. They immediately gravitated toward the beanbag seats, giant pillows, and Hokki stools, testing each one as if they were choosing the perfect tool for their learning. One student quietly sat on the couch, opened her book, and said, \"I can think better here.\" Another who often struggles to stay focused proudly announced, \"I'm going to wobble while I write so I don't get tired.\" These were small moments, but they showed me that the environment itself was already shifting their mindset.\r\n\r\nWe are now using the materials every single day during independent work, reading workshop, and our inquiry block. Students choose spots based on what they need in that moment: collaboration on the couch during partner reading, quiet reflection time on the giant pillows, or focused writing while balancing on the Hokki stools. During one recent STEM challenge, groups rearranged pillows and beanbags to make \"planning zones\" where they sketched solutions before building. Instead of me directing every movement, they created spaces that supported their own goals. Their engagement, stamina, and confidence have risen in ways you can feel the moment you walk into the room.\r\n\r\nYour generosity didn't just purchase furniture. It changed the culture of our classroom. My students are beginning to see themselves as active learners who make choices, take risks, and understand what helps them do their best thinking. Our next steps include using these flexible spaces to deepen project-based learning: student-led research, storytelling pods, and small-group math investigations that rely on movement, choice, and collaboration. Because of you, these students finally have a learning environment that matches their potential. Thank you for believing in them.","fullyFundedDate":1490843516089,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-students-through-choice/2426313/","projectTitle":"Empowering Students Through Choice","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. J.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3768514_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1485557090203","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/k117"},{"teacherId":114815,"projectId":5931801,"letterContent":"My kindergarten students were thrilled to receive 20 brand-new headphones for their iPads. These headphones have made such a positive difference in our classroom. During independent learning and assessment time, my students are now able to focus more easily without the distraction of background noise. This has helped them listen carefully to reading and math activities, follow directions more independently, and take pride in completing their digital learning tasks with confidence.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, I've been able to make small-group instruction more effective and individualized. While some students are working quietly on their iPads, I can give targeted support to others without interruptions. They will be able to comfortably enjoy being audience members for the many shows that we put on.
