Many students and their families sheltered in place at home, not even taking trips to the grocery store and unable to attend school. With the books, food, and art supplies that you so generously contributed to, I was able to support kids both in and out of school. Kids were able to maintain their reading when they couldn't get to school or libraries to check out books, and I was able to send \"fun\" snacks home with the food we provided to families. \r\n\r\nThroughout this experience, I was so grateful to know that we had your support--both the people I know and those who jumped in to help without any connection to my classroom. Kids needed to know that they are wanted and that they belong, and these gifts sent that message. \r\n\r\nIn closing, I'd like to tell you about just one of the kids who has been benefiting from this project. She hasn't historically been a big reader, but recently I have had to call her name over and over to get her attention when reading time ends. She is so invested in the story that she's forgotten to resist reading.
