Because a single textbook or curriculum cannot always meet that wide range of needs, I create and adapt much of what I teach. The funds from this project allow me to purchase supplementary lessons, practice materials, activities, visual supports, and games that reinforce what we are learning in ways that are accessible and engaging.\r\n\r\nSometimes another teacher has developed a way to model or explain a concept that I had not considered before. That new visual, example, or activity can be exactly what helps an idea finally make sense to a student. Those moments are incredibly meaningful. Your kindness will make a meaningful difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nBecause the materials arrived near the end of the school year, we have not yet had the opportunity to use them fully. However, I am genuinely excited to introduce them to my students this year. One of the main focuses in my resource math classes is helping students develop number sense and a stronger understanding of the value and relationships of numbers. These materials will give us so many new ways to make those ideas visible and concrete.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic fraction circles and fraction bars will allow students to build, compare, and manipulate fractions directly on our classroom whiteboards. Instead of fractions remaining abstract numbers on a page, students will be able to see how the pieces fit together and develop a better understanding of fraction size and equivalence.\r\n\r\nThe Magna-Tiles will be engaging for students to build with while also helping them explore three-dimensional geometric figures. The individual whiteboards will give every student a place to work through problems and show their thinking as we learn new skills. I especially love that the boards include both graphing space and open space for equations. They will help me see each student's understanding in the moment and provide support before frustration begins to take over.\r\n\r\nThe divisibility posters will give us another visual tool for discussing patterns and number relationships. The math games and resource books will provide even more opportunities for students to practice important skills in ways that feel engaging, approachable, and encouraging.\r\n\r\nThis year, I will be teaching more junior high students, and I am especially thankful to have these visual and hands-on tools available. My students have amazing minds and bring creativity, curiosity, and unique perspectives into our classroom. Many of them learn best when they can see a concept, touch it, move it, draw it, and try it again. Recently, during a project exploring the conductivity of various electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions, students were thrilled to use the conductivity meter to analyze which sports drinks were the most electrolytic (and possibly the best choice for a post-race drink). Their excitement was palpable as they engaged in this real-world application of chemistry.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has not only provided essential resources but has also ignited curiosity and fostered a deep understanding of scientific principles among our students.
