Students settle into their spots with so much more comfort and focus when reading. Some choose the egg when they need to read to others and some relax on the floor when they're writing. During our reading block each day, one of my students who is the student teacher gets to choose the comfy spot. They feel special and get to pick someone to sit with them. They love to listen to read aloud and love to read with each other on the seats. \r\n\r\nThey were thrilled when they received the new items. The fidgets, the writing supports, the soft seating, all of it felt like care they could actually touch. Several students told me, \"This makes it feel safer in here,\" and honestly, it was emotional in the best way. After everything they've recently gone through, seeing them smile, explore, and relax into the space meant everything.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're continuing to rebuild routines and trust. The emotional regulation books are becoming a part of our daily practice and students use them during morning check-ins and whenever they need a reset. The impact it has had on our learning environment has been immediate and wonderful.\r\n\r\nThe students absolutely love it! They are always eager to sit on the carpet during reading time, especially when working with their 2nd grade reading buddies. Seeing them mentor younger students and share stories together has been such a joy. The carpet has also become our go-to space for class discussions and math talks, offering a flexible and comfortable spot where all learners can engage fully. It has truly become the heart of our classroom community.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the carpet, their faces lit up with excitement. They couldn't wait to try it out and immediately claimed it as their new favorite spot. It's been amazing to watch them settle into a space that encourages collaboration, conversation, and learning.\r\n\r\nRight now, we are using the carpet as the center of several projects. For example, during our reading buddy sessions, students are practicing mentorship skills, helping younger readers with fluency and comprehension, and reflecting on their own reading strategies. Our next steps involve building on these skills by having students create their own guided reading activities for their buddies, which will strengthen both their leadership and literacy skills.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made a lasting difference in our classroom.
