My students use the carpet every day for morning meetings, read-alouds, phonics instruction, and community-building circles. Having a clean, comfortable space where we can all sit together has transformed how we learn. It allows students to focus, feel grounded, and fully participate in lessons that require listening, sharing, and collaboration.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the carpet, their faces lit up with excitement. They immediately gathered around it, touching it, sitting down and yelling with excitement. For many of my students, having a designated space that feels warm and welcoming made them feel proud of their classroom. They now take responsibility for caring for the carpet, reminding one another to keep it clean and safe. It has truly helped create a sense of belonging and ownership in our room.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, the carpet will continue to support our learning as we build foundational reading skills, practice turn-taking during discussions, and strengthen our classroom community. Whether we are sounding out new words, sharing writing, or celebrating each other's successes, this carpet gives us a shared space to grow together. We utilize the book boxes and supply caddies daily. \r\n\r\nThe students take such pride in being able to select books they enjoy reading and store them in their book boxes. They know they can always go back to them whenever they want, and can take them anywhere in the room to read without being concerned about dropping them. At this age, learning independence and having choice is important to their development as a scholar.\r\n\r\nWith the book boxes, they are able to properly care for their books. With the supply caddies, they are able to keep track of their supplies, looking at a glance to see if they have what they need or if they need to replenish anything. They are learning to be responsible with their belongings, and it is making a positive impact on their first year of school.\r\n\r\nWe look forward to using the supplies for many years to come.
