Daily practice of reading and language skills is essential in ensuring that my students can meet the demands of reading to learn. My students are diverse learners and possess such enthusiasm for showing off their close reading skills. They think of close reading as a fun game and a competition- ideas I don't discourage! Daily Language and Comprehension activities provide consistent practice upon which they can depend. Your donation will provide students with hands-on decoding, reading, and language resources which are key to providing a foundation upon they can build all other reading skills. The Phonics Interactive Journals will help build that foundation. The materials will be used as small group and independent work, in peer group collaboration, at differentiated centers and as homework support. Having these resources readily available in the classroom will greatly facilitate my students' personal access to beautiful and colorful materials that meet their individual needs. When their individual needs are met, students experience academic growth and greater confidence in their reading abilities.
