One powerful moment occurred during a class discussion when typically quiet students began raising their hands, asking for the Q-ball so they could share their ideas. The structure of passing the ball created a sense of safety and predictability, which allowed more students to participate without fear of being interrupted.\r\n\r\nDuring a recent lesson, students used the Q-ball to respond to a prompt about a text we were reading. Each student held the ball while speaking, and others practiced active listening. I saw students not only share their own thoughts but also respectfully respond to their peers—something that had previously been a challenge.\r\n\r\nThe vibrating office chair has become an essential support for students who need sensory input to stay regulated. One student who previously struggled to remain seated and focused was able to complete an entire lesson independently while using the chair. It has helped transform moments that were once disruptive into opportunities for sustained learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were immediately excited and curious. The Q-ball quickly became something they all wanted a turn with—it felt special and purposeful, not just another classroom item. They thought it was particularly important that we included the sanitizing box, in a post-Covid era. Students were eager to participate and quickly understood its role in helping everyone have a voice.\r\nThe vibrating chair sparked a lot of interest as well. At first, they couldn't believe it was for them! Students were fascinated by how it worked, and once they experienced it, many described it as calming and helpful. For students who often struggle with focus or restlessness, it was clear right away that this tool was going to make a difference.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, my students will continue using the Q-ball to deepen their discussion skills, especially as we work on building evidence-based responses and engaging in more structured academic conversations. The goal is for students to become more independent in facilitating discussions while still maintaining respectful turn-taking and listening.\r\nWe will also continue incorporating sensory supports like the vibrating chair into daily instruction so students can better manage their focus and emotions throughout longer tasks. As we move into more complex assignments, these tools will help ensure that all students—regardless of their learning needs—can fully participate and succeed.\r\nThese resources are not just supporting individual moments; they are helping build lasting skills in communication, confidence, and self-regulation.","fullyFundedDate":1768018293298,"projectUrl":"project/one-ball-many-voices/9985986/","projectTitle":"One Ball, Many Voices","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Boddye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10397768_orig.jpg?crop=2048,2048,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767802376552","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10397768"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_46059","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2202,"numTeachers":120,"percentFrplEligible":59,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":43,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":32,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"18.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":46059,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Potomac High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Potomac High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/prince-william-county-public-schools/potomac-high-school/46059"}
