Students are learning about themes like survival, adaptation, empathy, and the relationship between technology and nature. The book's central character, Roz the robot, challenges students to think about what it means to be \"alive\" and how one can learn and grow through new experiences. As Roz navigates life on a remote island, students are prompted to explore character development, infer motivation and emotion, and recognize the power of nonverbal communication and community building — all while practicing close reading and making meaningful text-to-self and text-to-world connections.\r\n\r\nReading The Wild Robot in our classroom has become an engaging, collaborative experience. We often read sections aloud together, followed by small group discussions where students explore the characters' choices and the challenges Roz faces. This active reading environment keeps students invested in the book and encourages them to ask thoughtful questions and share personal insights.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have shown a particular love for The Wild Robot. One student who enjoys robotics and technology is especially fascinated by Roz's programming and how she learns to become more human-like. Another student, who is usually shy, has connected deeply with Roz's sense of being different and has started to speak up more during group discussions. The emotional growth of Roz mirrors some of the social-emotional learning we emphasize in class, and students are not only enjoying the story but also learning to understand themselves and others more deeply through the lens of the book.","fullyFundedDate":1748442566531,"projectUrl":"project/chapter-one-help-us-book-a-better-cla/9249915/","projectTitle":"Chapter One: Help Us 'Book' a Better Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Giusti","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4621545_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1524165673985","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/gayphilo"},{"teacherId":8176236,"projectId":6931577,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your incredible generosity my students were so excited to use the materials I was able to select for our Art lessons.
