We received them at the perfect time of the school year to begin using them daily with our phonics instruction. \r\nDuring our phonemic awareness instruction we use our spelling boards to build and read simple CVC words. Student love using their white board markers and also the magnetic chips provided with the boards to build our phonics pattern of the day/week. I saw a nice improvement in my students writing once we began building words in isolation on these boards. \r\nThese boards are very user friendly and have held up really nice with 5 and 6 year olds. They match the classroom decor so nicely and stack up against a wall easily for 5 year olds. \r\nThe next thing I love about these flexible seating option is that the kids use them during their creative play time to build houses, beds, etc. It's so fun to watch them be creative and imaginative when they don't know anyone is watching. \r\nOf course I love the options they give on where kids can sit and what type of surface. These are just such a great addition to any classroom. So, this year's class are the first to use them.\r\n I did some professional development last year and was introduced to the idea of Building Thinking Classrooms. We are lucky enough to have a few mentor teachers in our district that have implemented the ideas presented in the book with the same name and have perfected the practices that increase student engagement and in turn student success, who were our leaders during these after hour work sessions.\r\n The Vertical Thinking Spaces you helped fund provide work spaces that are visible to all in the room at the same time. The discussions, collaboration, thinking and learning that I have witnessed during the use of these spaces is really amazing. These seat sacks have served multiple purposes in my classroom and help to make things run smoothly!\r\n\r\nThe different colored seat sacks allow me to easily have a variety of students lead during our classroom learning. I can call out a color (there are four at each table group) and that student might be in charge of starting the discussion, getting supplies, etc. The students love that everyone gets a chance to be first or be the helper. It also allows me to make sure I am giving everyone those opportunities.\r\n\r\nThe seat sacks also provide a home for our class laptops during the instructional day. The students get their computer in the morning and put it in their seat sack. This gives them quick access to the laptops when we need it. It also gives the laptop a protected space, helping avoid damage.\r\n\r\nThese seat sacks really are the answer to many issues in my classroom.
