CHOP, COOK, GROW! Because of your generosity, our students have access to the tools and materials they need to participate in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. From using measuring cups and kitchen tools to preparing simple recipes and cleaning up afterward, students are building important life skills that will help them become more independent both at school and at home.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new cooking supplies, they were excited and eager to get started. There was a great sense of pride as they explored the equipment and talked about all the recipes they hoped to make. We practiced with NON-FOOD (paper and water) items first to get the hang of it. Working with food is our next step. The blender, hand mixer, can opener, and other supplies have helped create an engaging kitchen environment where every student can actively participate and contribute.\r\n\r\nOur Cooking Club is already providing opportunities for students to practice communication, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, and following directions. One of our favorite moments has been watching students gain confidence as they successfully complete steps in a recipe and proudly share their finished creations with peers and staff. These accomplishments may seem small, but they represent important growth in independence and self-confidence.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue expanding their cooking skills by preparing a variety of meals and snacks, learning about kitchen safety, exploring new recipes, and practicing planning and organization. Now, with their own personal spellers at their fingertips, they can access grade-level work without the constant barrier of spelling holding them back.\r\n\r\nThe biggest gift has been the dramatic increase in student autonomy.
