We have been using the new resources to create a hands-on learning experience by incubating and hatching 12 chicken eggs in our classroom. My class partnered with the older self-contained classroom for this project, which made the experience even more meaningful and exciting! Together, the students observed the egg development process, learned about life cycles, and practiced patience and responsibility by helping care of the eggs and prepare for the chicks. The collaboration between classrooms also encouraged social interactions and peer support. All of the students were highly engaged and genuinely excited throughout this whole process, even as we now sit quietly and wait to hear the peeps of hatched chicks! It has been a positive and memorable learning experience for everyone involved!\r\n\r\nEven though once the chicks are hatched and a few days old we send them back to the farm that donated the eggs, the students continue to learn what the next steps would be! Students will observe virtually how to care of chicks are they grow, while introducing basic lessons about their needs, such as food, water, and shelter. Students cna practice recording observations through drawings, simple writings, or charts to track growth and changes. Two are being used in our sensory, one in the occupational therapy/ physical therapy room and one in my room.\r\nThere was excitement when students saw the spinning chairs and when they got a chance to try them out. Students loved spinning in the chairs. The chairs were so calming for the students. They will start by learning their short vowel and long vowel sounds by listening to the engaging stories. The visuals and the stories will help them remember why/when the a makes the long sound and why/when the a makes the long vowel sound in words.\r\n Students loved seeing the visuals for the secret stories grouped in the picture frames. They thought the black and white border around the frames looked cool.
