As students read over the summer, they will not only build confidence as readers, but also begin thinking about how writers use language to shape meaning, connect with audiences, and respond to important moments in history and in their own lives.\r\n\r\nBecause of these books, I can introduce students to rhetorical analysis before the school year officially begins. Students will practice identifying speaker, purpose, audience, context, and exigence while reading a meaningful contemporary memoir, which will help them enter AP Language and Composition with a stronger foundation for the work ahead.
