It came just in time as students were celebrating reading 200 books together as a class!\r\n\r\nAll of the new graphic novels were instantly cracked open and passed around the classroom. We even had a waitlist for the \"I Survived\" series! It's been incredibly rewarding to see them become excited about new titles and recommend them to each other in the classroom.\r\n\r\nIt warms my heart to know that there are incredible people out there who believe in my students. As an English Language Development (ELD) teacher, I have the joy of working with a vibrant and diverse group of students who are not only learning a new language but also adjusting to a new culture, country, and school system.\r\n\r\nMy classroom is more than just a place to learn English, it's a safe, welcoming community where students build confidence, form connections, and find their voice. This project is designed to support that mission by transforming our learning space with flexible seating options that meet the unique needs of English learners.\r\n\r\nThe flexible seating I've selected, sofas, floor chairs, and refreshed tables, will allow students to choose how and where they learn best. This autonomy builds independence and a sense of ownership over their learning. It also increases engagement during reading, writing, and collaborative discussions, especially when we're diving into novels and exploring complex topics and emotions.\r\n\r\nFor English learners, the benefits go even deeper. A comfortable, student-centered environment lowers anxiety, encourages conversation, and promotes peer-to-peer learning—all of which are critical for developing language skills. The seating arrangements will support both individual focus and group interaction, helping students feel more at ease and more invested in their education.\r\n\r\nBy contributing to this project, you're helping to create a learning environment that supports language development, emotional well-being, and academic growth. Your generosity will empower my students to rise to their potential, not just as English learners, but as confident, capable members of our classroom community.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1746786434969,"projectUrl":"project/reading-relaxing-and-rising-a-flexibl/9274281/","projectTitle":"Reading, Relaxing, and Rising: A Flexible Seating Project for ELLs","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Siegel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9733775_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725637536119","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9733775"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_84702","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":443,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":28,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":84,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":50.2,"schoolId":84702,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Perry Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Perry Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/ohio/perry-local-school-district-lake/perry-middle-school/84702"}
