Your gift is already helping students stay calm and focused. We set up a small sensory corner with the new materials, and students use it throughout the day when they need a short break. We have worked on asking for a break, utilizing the sensory tools appropriately, and returning back with the group. For students with more sensory needs, they have been able to access the materials throughout sessions to stay regulated. \r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, the students were very excited to try out all the different sensory tools. Your kindness has allowed us to meet an immediate need within our community, providing students with the security and stability they deserve.\r\n\r\nThe impact on our students has been truly heartwarming. Many children who once struggled with worn-out or ill-fitting footwear now arrive at school with warm, supportive shoes that help them walk safely, play comfortably, and fully participate in daily activities. One student was so surprised and grateful that she asked three separate times if she was really allowed to keep the shoes—an unforgettable reminder of how meaningful your generosity is. Teachers have noticed an increase in students' confidence and readiness to learn, as well as a decrease in discomfort-related distractions. Your contribution has created a calmer, more inclusive learning environment where all students have what they need to succeed.\r\nThe impact of these items has been immediate and heartfelt. Students have shared how meaningful these tools are, telling us, \"The wiggle feet help me to focus when I am working,\" \"The noise-cancelling headphones help me with tests,\" and \"The wiggle feet help me concentrate and listen better, in fact I am using them right now.\" Their words reflect the difference you have made—your generosity is not just providing supplies, but empowering students to feel comfortable, confident, and capable in their learning. It's in the small details of children needing an ice pack for a sore muscle or and itchy bug bite, and we tell the kids well if you want and ice pack you can go grab one out of the fridge. Sometimes an ice pack can make a big difference for a child with sensory needs.\r\n\r\nOne student said, he saw my ice tray in the freezer, I told him ok, don't touch it because that is going to be a part of our future experiment when we talk about solids and liquids, and weight of solids and liquids.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, it actually took me a little while to set up the the time on the microwave, and student called me out and said Ms. Velez how come you have no time set on the microwave? I said, that is a great idea! What time is it on the clock so we can put the correct time on our microwave, and the kids tried to read the time on the clock to be able to set up our new microwave.\r\n\r\nBut our microwave will not only help us see how solids melt with heat, and do not change in weight, but also it can be a great way for kids to witness chemical vs. physical changes among different food items. Not only do we get to bring science to life, but also work on things like time, heat vs. cold, or even accessing a cool snack or warming up a lunch item.\r\n\r\nThank you for your powerful contributions to our special education class. It was a joy to see how happy it made everyone in the room feel. Our students use their kid magnets daily to make lunch choices, and we use the expandable ball in our daily morning circle exercises. The tiles are also used for sensory activities where students can rest and play with the liquid tiles during breaks or moments of frustration as a coping skill. The games are used during our 100 point parties or free times, and during indoor recess for bad weather conditions.\r\n\r\nThe light strips are a a highlight, as they are being used each day, and we were able to help fix the light strips that were old and breaking down. The crayon supply organizers have also been a great contribution to help keep supplies accessible for students and teachers in small group instruction. Our next steps are to begin to prepare students to study hard for benchmark assessments and end of year testing. These sensory and organizational tools will be used to help motivate kids to work hards, and look forward to taking well earned sensory breaks in between assignments and daily work.
