I teach 123 8th grade students, and your generosity has given me a simple, but meaningful way to help my students feel more comfortable and confident at school. \r\n\r\nAnyone who has spent time around middle school students knows that middle school can be a challenging and awkward time. Personal hygiene can also suffer, especially as students are growing, changing, and becoming more active. When you add in South Carolina heat, PE, recess, and after-school sports, something as simple as deodorant can become a very important part of the school day! I started keeping deodorant in my classroom because I remember myself being this age and the absolute panic it could cause when I would realize I forgot to include deodorant in my morning routine. For a middle school student, this thought can derail the entire rest of your day. You are now both distracted from learning and embarrassed. And for some families, it's more than a matter of forgetting. Some families just don't have the extra income for such an expense. \r\n\r\nYou donation has allowed me to keep both men's and women's sample-sized deodorants, along with spray-on options, available for students who need them. The response in the first 2 weeks of school has shown me already what a valuable resource this has been. Several students have already quietly asked if they could grab a deodorant. These moments may seem small, but they matter! Your donation has helped me provide something that goes beyond personal hygiene. It gives my students a little more confidence and dignity during a time when both can be hard to come by. Our 8th grade students have a snack cart available to purchase snacks from, but I would sometimes see students looking longingly at the snacks without the means to make a purchase. I realized that while our district provides free lunch for our students, lunchtime can still feel very far away for a student who did not eat breakfast, or on the flip side of that, for students who ate lunch but then have sports until 5:30 pm or later. Your generous donation has allowed me to keep a variety of nutricious, individually packaged snacks on hand for those students who need a little extra boost during the school day, but are unable to buy their own snacks. I can now quietly offer a granola bar, crackers, or another snack to a student who needs one. These snacks won't used for rewards or treats, but for those moments when a student is genuinely hungry and needs a little pick-me-up so they can focus, participate, and make it through the day. \r\n\r\nI teach around 123 8th grade students this year, so your donation has a huge impact on these young lives. What may seem like a small snack can make a surprisingly big difference to a middle school student. When I have been able to offer snacks in the past, it has helped not only nourish their bellies, but also lets them know that my classroom is a safe space where they can get a snack given to them if they need one without ever feeling embarrassed. \r\n \r\nThank you for recognizing that helping students learn sometimes starts with meeting a very basic need. Your generosity has helped me create a classroom where my students know they are cared for, supported, and ready to learn. Tug of war quickly became a student favorite, with cheers and laughter heard all across the field!\r\n\r\nYour generosity gave our students the opportunity to step outside the classroom, stay active, and build friendships through positive and engaging experiences. Seeing their smiles, excitement, and teamwork throughout the day was truly priceless.
