Equipped with the Chompsaw, these young artists were about to embark on a hands-on learning experience that went far beyond simply cutting pieces of cardboard.\r\n\r\nThe creative process began as students sketched out initial concepts, drawing animals, intricate floral designs, and decorative letters destined to become vibrant 3D masterpieces. To guide their design thinking, students explored the concept of patterns and learned how to break down a two-dimensional drawing into individual structural components. Examining the construction of clothing provided a clear, accessible visual aid for understanding pattern making, which we supplemented by examining everyday objects found throughout the classroom. Step by step, students developed their ideas: first drawing their design, then creating individual pattern parts and transferring those shapes onto salvaged cardboard. The excitement peaked as they carefully operated the Chompsaw to cut out each section, culminating in assembly, gluing, and adding detailed finishing touches of color.\r\n\r\nHaving the two Chompsaws in the classroom provided an exceptional hands-on opportunity for students to experience genuine artistic and engineering success. They love putting on the pinnies, it makes them feel official. \r\nThey were very excited when we unboxed the materials and I explained that they were donated for us to enjoy, take care of, and share with each other. \r\nMy next steps with this is to keep on showing my students about soccer, but most importantly about staying active! Having headphones available allows students to clearly hear audio directions, listening to passages, and question that are built into the state assessments. This helps students stay focused, work independently, and complete their testing session interruption free.\r\n\r\nStudents have been excited to use the new headphones because of their high quality and comfort. Unlike some headphones we have used in the past, these provide clear sound and fit comfortably over students' ears, which many students prefer over earbuds. The quieter environment created by the headphones allows students to focus their attention on the test and work through each section with greater confidence.\r\n\r\nAn added benefit has been the microphone feature, which has helped many students use speech-to-text tools to speak their thoughts into the microphone. For some students who struggle with writing or spelling, using the microphone has allowed them to express their thoughts more easily. It allows them to focus on their ideas and creativity rather than getting stuck on spelling or typing.\r\n\r\nSeveral students especially benefit from this technology, including those who need to hear information more than once, those who concentrate better with clear audio, and those who express themselves more easily through dictation. In math we had various multiplication centers based around baked goods.
