It wasn't just about the \"cool technology\"—for my students, seeing these high-quality vinyls and tools made my students feel like their ideas actually mattered. One student even whispered, \"We get to use this?\" It was a beautiful moment of validation that showed them someone out there believes in their creativity and their potential to do good.\r\n\r\nWe jumped right into our \"Message Makers\" project, and honestly, it transformed the energy in our room. My students didn't just make stickers; they became \"positivity ambassadors.\" Watching them carefully weed out the tiny letters of a \"You Matter\" or \"Keep Going\" sticker was a lesson in patience and Mālama (care). The best part, though, was seeing them nervously but excitedly hand these tiny gifts to random people on campus. They got to see a teacher's face brighten or a fellow student crack a smile, and in that moment, they realized they have the power to change someone's day. It turned our classroom into a hub of Aloha, where the goal wasn't just to finish an assignment, but to connect with their community.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are so excited to keep this momentum going! Our next step is to create \"Values Decals\" for our classroom and common areas. We'll be using our Kealaʻula Values—like Pono (doing the right thing) and Lōkahi (unity)—to design large-scale art that reminds everyone on campus what we stand for. Because of your kindness, my students aren't just learning how to use a machine; they are learning that they have a voice and a responsibility to use it for good. The truth is that many of our communities are very rural and families face real socioeconomic hardship. Some live off grid. Some rely on limited solar power. For many of our students, school is the most stable place in their lives.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our Kōkua Closet, affectionately called KC, continues to grow as a space of dignity and care. Kōkua means to help, and giving our closet a Hawaiian name grounds the work in our shared responsibility to care for one another. Our youth leaders are the example. They organize the space, sort donations into men's, women's, and gender neutral sections, and make sure every student feels respected when they walk in. When new resources arrive, their faces light up. It means fewer hard conversations about what we do not have. It means more students leaving with what they need.\r\n\r\nKC serves youth in grades 7 through 12, including special education students and fully self contained classrooms who frequent the room most. Your generosity strengthens a student led effort to sustain basic clothing and hygiene needs on our campus. The next step for our students is continuing to build leadership through design, fundraising, and service so the closet remains stocked and sustainable. You are not just giving supplies. You are affirming that our students deserve dignity, creativity, and care right where they are.\r\n\r\nMahalo for standing with us.","fullyFundedDate":1770075728661,"projectUrl":"project/kokua-closet-essentials/9780266/","projectTitle":"Kokua Closet Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Luiz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9986283_orig.jpg?crop=1025,1025,x74,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744061242036","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9986283"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_50782","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":745,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":31,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":38.0,"schoolId":50782,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pahoa High & Intermediate School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pahoa High & Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/hawaii/hawaii-school-district/pahoa-high-interm-school/50782"}
