This book has opened the door for so many meaningful conversations and learning opportunities in our classroom. Through this text, students have worked on important reading skills like making predictions, using text evidence, understanding character feelings and motivations, and thinking deeper about the theme of a story. It has been amazing to watch them connect with the characters and truly care about what happens next.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is very hands-on and interactive. During small groups, students read together, stop to discuss the story, answer questions, and practice comprehension skills in a way that keeps them engaged. We talk about vocabulary, make connections to our own lives, and really focus on understanding the story instead of just rushing through it. Small groups allow me to meet students where they are and give them the support and encouragement they need to grow as readers.\r\n\r\nI have several students who are especially enjoying this book. Some of my quieter students have really started opening up during discussions because they connect with the story so well. I also have students who normally struggle to stay focused during reading time asking if we can read another chapter before leaving the table. Seeing students excited about reading and building confidence has been one of the best parts of using these new books.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping put books like Wish into my students' hands. Your support is helping create readers who are engaged, confident, and excited to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1772548434304,"projectUrl":"project/turning-wishes-into-confident-readers/10119143/","projectTitle":"Turning Wishes Into Confident Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8489193_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x307,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1654886639447","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8489193"},{"teacherId":8489193,"projectId":9666715,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for supporting our third-grade classroom. These new Scholastic News have truly made a difference in how my students are learning and growing as readers. We use them to build comprehension, vocabulary, and deeper thinking skills every day. Students are learning how to make inferences, identify text features, compare texts, and explain their thinking using evidence. These are big skills for eight- and nine-year-olds, and having engaging, high-interest topics at their level helps everything \"click\" in a way worksheets alone never could.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and full of discussion. You would see students working in small groups, reading with partners, and having meaningful conversations about the stories. We use sticky notes to mark important parts, talk about new vocabulary, and share connections. The best part is that students are excited to read. \r\n\r\nSome of my quieter or struggling readers have especially blossomed. They can listen to the story online and understand it. They are volunteering to read, participating in discussions, and feeling proud of their progress. Your generosity is doing more than putting information in their hands; it is helping my students see themselves as readers, and that will stay with them far beyond third grade. The bouncy bands and fidgets are helping students better manage their energy, stay focused, and remain engaged during learning time. These tools have been especially helpful for students who benefit from movement and sensory supports, allowing them to participate more successfully in classroom activities.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the organizational containers and new items for the school store have improved how students earn and redeem their points. The store is now easier for students to access and navigate, which has increased motivation and excitement around positive behavior and effort. Your support allowed me to create a unique and engaging classroom transformation that brought learning to life for my students. The excitement and curiosity this transformation sparked were beyond anything I could have imagined.\r\n\r\nThe stickers you helped provide were an absolute hit and became a powerful motivator for students to stay engaged and participate. Other donated items helped me set the stage for memorable lessons that blended science, reading, and math in creative ways.
