Instead of working through digital worksheets on Chromebooks, students worked in small teams using the new building materials and strategy card games to explore spatial reasoning and logic. Two students who rarely interacted during independent device time were huddled together, intently building a bridge structure to test weight limits. They laughed, negotiated strategies, and spent twenty minutes problem-solving through trial and error—all without looking at a single screen!\r\n\r\nThe Initial Reaction\r\nWhen the boxes first arrived and were unpacked in front of the class, they were so excited! The moment they saw the board games and building sets, everyone cheered. Many students immediately crowded around to see what was inside, eagerly asking, \"When do we get to play these?\" They couldn't wait to dive in.\r\n\r\nNext Steps for Our Students\r\nYour generosity gave our class a peek into what collaborative learning can be, and our journey is just getting started. Moving forward, students will be using these building materials to design and present their own original board games as part of our upcoming creative writing and design unit. They also love purchasing stickers for their homework folder and water bottle. I love how much students look forward to spending their hard earned class money. Students chopped different vegetables and they thoroughly enjoyed eating something they created together. \r\n\r\nThese materials have made it easier to incorporate more science into our weekly schedule.
