Before this project, many of my students were sharing worn, outdated copies or reading from photocopied excerpts, which made it hard for them to fully engage with the story or follow along during discussions.\r\n\r\nHaving individual books has transformed our reading time. Students can now underline favorite passages, jot notes in the margins, and easily flip back to reread key moments — skills that are building their confidence as active readers. Our class discussions about friendship, loyalty, and the courage it takes to stand up for others have become richer, because every student can point to specific lines in the text to support their thinking.\r\n\r\nI've especially noticed a shift in my reluctant readers. Several students who typically resist independent reading time have asked to take their books home to keep reading ahead — something I rarely saw before. E.B.
