We use the rug as a gathering space for morning meetings, read-alouds, small-group lessons, and class discussions. One of my favorite moments was during a recent read-aloud when every student was seated comfortably, engaged, and eager to turn and talk with a partner. The rug has created a clear, welcoming space where students feel safe to share ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the rug, their faces lit up with excitement. They immediately asked, \"Is this for us?\" and carefully chose spots to sit. Many of my students told me it made the classroom feel more like a community and less like just rows of desks. For some, having a soft, defined place to sit has helped them focus better and feel more relaxed during lessons.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, the rug will continue to play a central role in our learning. We are currently working on collaborative reading and writing lessons, and the rug allows us to come together to model skills, discuss stories, and reflect on our learning as a class. It's also become an important space for social-emotional learning, where we practice listening, empathy, and respect. Because of you, my students have a space that supports both their academic growth and their sense of belonging. Thank you for giving my students a resource that truly brings our classroom together. 💛","fullyFundedDate":1769177714041,"projectUrl":"project/a-rug-for-reading-sharing-and-learning/9908994/","projectTitle":"A Rug for Reading, Sharing, and Learning Together","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Iniguez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10051193_orig.jpg?crop=3088,3089,x0,y10&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753822774587","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10051193"},{"teacherId":2616541,"projectId":9665283,"letterContent":"The students were super excited when the folkloriko dresses, and the canvases and markers were delivered to the classroom. \r\nWith the small canvases the students were able to paint butterflies inspired by the migration of the Monarch Butterfly which travels all the way from Mexico. They also painted flowers inspired by the ones that grow just outside our school. \r\nAlthough the dresses were a bit small, some of our kindergarten students were able to use them during our dance showcase to introduce the dance numbers.","fullyFundedDate":1758705429574,"projectUrl":"project/a-vapa-showcase/9665283/","projectTitle":"A VAPA Showcase","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jaime","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2616541"},{"teacherId":9751219,"projectId":9488494,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom through this project. Your generosity has already made a meaningful difference in the way my students experience reading every day. With the class set of Wonder, my students are now able to participate in whole-class discussions with their own copy in hand. For many of them, this is the very first time they've had access to a brand-new hardcover book of their own during instruction. We've been using the novel to practice close-reading strategies, text-based discussions, and empathy-building lesson and it has quickly become a favorite part of our day.\r\n\r\nThe biography FunBooks have also opened up an exciting new world for my 4th and 5th graders. They love choosing new figures to learn about during our informational reading block, and these resources have made it much easier for them to access nonfiction in a fun, student-friendly way. Several of my English learners, who often shy away from nonfiction texts, have been especially drawn to the Women & Minorities series because they see themselves reflected in these stories. It has given them a sense of pride and motivation that I hadn't seen before.\r\nEven the small items, like the charging cables and supplemental books, have made our classroom more functional and supportive. The short charging cords keep our devices organized during centers and allow students to stay focused instead of worrying about dead iPads or tangled cables. The additional reading books have given my higher-level readers more options during independent reading time, which they truly appreciate.\r\nThank you again for believing in teachers and investing in classrooms like mine. Your kindness has helped create a warm, literacy-rich environment where students feel excited to learn, explore, and grow. We are all so grateful for you.","fullyFundedDate":1755746890873,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-library/9488494/","projectTitle":"Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hernandez-Magana","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9751219_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y640&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755750541184","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9751219"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7515","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":375,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":97,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"9.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":91.9,"schoolId":7515,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Nueva Vista Magnet Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Nueva Vista Magnet Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/nueva-vista-magnet-elementary-school/7515"}
