Having books that help teach character lessons as well as books that go along with our history teaching has been a great addition so far this year! Students heard about the life of Frederick Douglass after our unit on Harriet Tubman. Then on Veterans Day, students heard about the Poppy Lady and we talked about life in America during the war. The books have led to some great discussions and life learning. I have spent time placing each of these books specifically with a unit they go with throughout the year and look forward to opening each book at some point during the school year. Books have a way of captivating students and these books are definitely in that category.
