Your donation has made a lasting impact on our students, and I'm excited to share how these books are helping them grow as readers and learners.\r\n\r\nMany of our donors love to read books (we do, too!) but may not be familiar with how books are used to teach specific skills in a classroom setting. These new texts are doing so much more than just telling great stories—they're helping us build essential literacy skills. We use them to introduce vocabulary, practice comprehension strategies like predicting and summarizing, and explore important themes such as kindness, courage, and friendship. They also serve as models for writing and spark thoughtful class discussions.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an active, joyful part of the day. Students read independently, with partners, and in small guided reading groups. We talk about the books together, ask questions, make connections, and celebrate new discoveries. The books you've helped provide have brought fresh excitement to our reading time and helped students see themselves—and others—in the stories they read.\r\n\r\nThere are a few students who have especially connected with the new books. One student who was previously reluctant to read now asks for quiet reading time every day because she found a story that made her feel seen. Another student, who is working hard on building fluency, lights up when he gets to read aloud from his favorite new animal book to the class.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your generosity is helping us build not only stronger readers, but lifelong lovers of books. We are so grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1583466912181,"projectUrl":"project/vacant-bookshelves-seeking-shelf-mates/4809523/","projectTitle":"Vacant Bookshelves Seeking Shelf-Mates!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Long","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3498737_orig.jpg?crop=467,467,x0,y9&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741621786172","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/monicalong"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3215","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":161,"numTeachers":16,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":31,"percentWhite":50,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.6,"schoolId":3215,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about North End Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"North End Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/person-county-school-district/north-end-elementary-school/3215"}
