I came to this charter school in October 2025 and I did not realize how limited on resources they were. I immediately wrote to Donor's Choose to get the microscopes and stethoscopes I needed to teach upcoming lessons and to get my students invested in the lesson. I had almost lost hope and then you came along and generously completed my request.\r\nI knew students would be interested with the materials but they were highly engaged. They took out their phones and took pictures of what they saw. They told their families of the specimens they saw under the microscope and they were so excited. They said they felt like real scientists and they owned their learning which was what I wanted all along. I could not have done this without you. They took their time on writing you the letters because they were so appreciative that you took the time to do this. I cannot wait to do these lessons with this new school years group. Thanks to your help, our class has been able to fully immerse itself in Building Thinking Classrooms. Students work in randomly chosen groups to solve math problems at the whiteboards. They use what they already know, share ideas, and talk through different ways to find solutions. It has been exciting to see them collaborating, discovering new mathematical relationships, and taking pride in their progress.\r\n\r\nAt first, students were a little nervous about this new way of learning. They weren't sure how to begin without step-by-step directions. After a few days, everything changed. Now they ask every day, \"Can we go to the boards?\" They have learned that it's okay to feel frustrated when a problem is challenging and that those moments are part of learning. Watching them grow more confident and determined each day has been truly rewarding.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we will continue to build our Thinking Classroom and strengthen our problem-solving skills. My students are learning to think deeply, work as a team, and never give up when math feels challenging.
