I made copies of the front and back of the package for all students and they learned about the NPK values, the organic certification seal, the ingredients, the macro and secondary available nutrients, the application methods, they available microbes, and safety precautions. \r\n\r\nThen students were able to see and smell the organic and compare it to a synthetic fertilizer. Students were very impressed to see that the organic fertilizer looks like \"food\" granola and was surprised to see how artificial the other fertilizer looked. Then it was application day where students measured out the appropriate amount and distribute the fertilizer onto their garden bed. They were shown how to evenly scatter the fertilizer while limiting dust particles. Even though no one enjoyed the strong smell, they all got the task done.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to observe the plant growth, maintain weeding task, and harvesting and enjoying our crops. In another month, we will start to get ready for planting our warm season vegetables. Students will clean out their garden beds and apply another dose of your fertilizer before planting for the summer. Your donation has made this lesson real. Students were able to see, feel, smell, and apply real high-quality amendment to their garden bed. This experience will help them feel proud of the beautiful and healthy plants they are growing.
