These can help students transfer the skills they learn on the iPad to a medium they see in class, paper! They also get extra practice with little 4 page books that I can print and they can practice reading. They get excited to be able to read books like their classmates. One student was so proud of his success that we recorded him reading the book and sent it to his mom. I was able to introduce and adapt the Ousi games to meet my students developmental level. The older students were curious about the pictures and using the QR codes on the back could instantly give more information. They were able to play the game of placing like by like and explaining why - both green, both animals, both have stripes. The younger students started by sorting animals and nature. They were able to understand the concept and sort them correctly. Then one student placed the animal picture in the nature category. When I asked if that was the right place, he said, \"Yes, fox outside.\" I love that he was able to communicate WHY he did that and had a great and valid reason. I put books and the Tonie character on the magnetic spice rack shelf or out on a table for students to select and listen to. Students told me about their pets and those who didn't have pets picked out a favorite shelter animal to make the toy for. They are perfect as they can be tailored to each student's needs. The subscription allows me to create a task box for any skill my students need. A few of my students are whole-word readers. They might know letters and sounds, but they don't know how to sound out words or put letters together to create words. They rely on visual memory of words they have seen with repeated exposure. Edmark does this in an engaging way on the iPad and each student follows their own program at their own pace. \r\nI want to share a story about one of the students who recently started using Edmark. I have been working with a student for 2 years. I have tried just about every OG reading curriculum out there, and he still couldn't blend a CVC word consistently. Towards the very end of the school year, I started a new trial of Edmark. He said it was easy. Great! We worked on 5 words in about 2-3 weeks. Summer happened. Today I showed him the words one by one to see where to start him this year. He knew every single word we learned (stopping at exactly where we left off) AND could string them in phrases and sentences! I was so excited to have found what finally works that I took a quick video of him reading and sent it to his mom. She was excited as well and that student's confidence about reading has improved. As a result, we need a lot of storage for all of these items. I was able to replace a very old shelf with these new shelves and expand our storage. Some storage cabinets are for items I select for various learning activities. Another storage cabinet is for the STEM items they use daily. The sectioned parts of the cabinet make it easy for the students to put back the train, Zoob builders, or Legos back in the correct spot.
