Your kindness has made a profound impact on my students and our classroom community.\r\n\r\nThanks to the books and literature provided through your donation, my students; many of whom are at risk due to special education needs, alternative education placement, credit recovery, or challenging life circumstances, have had the opportunity to engage in meaningful, eye-opening discussions. The range of reading levels included in the materials allowed for inclusive small group conversations around topics such as racial equity, gender equity, and cultural acceptance.\r\n\r\nLiving and learning in Oklahoma, the inclusion of texts and documents about the Tulsa Race Massacre struck a powerful chord. Some of my students are familiar with Tulsa and were shocked to learn about such a cataclysmic event in our own state's history. These moments of discovery sparked deep reflection and dialogue, especially among students who are typically reserved.\r\n\r\nOne particularly moving experience came while reading Courage Has No Color, which highlights African American heroes of World War II. For many of my students of color, this was the first time they saw themselves represented in literature beyond the narrative of segregation. Mr. Nichols' vision of a future without segregated units resonated strongly, and it gave us a chance to reflect on how far we've come, and how far we still have to go.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has laid the foundation for inquiry, curiosity, and a hunger to challenge the status quo. You've helped create a space where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to think critically about the world around them.\r\n\r\nFrom all of us here, thank you for believing in our students and for helping us turn the page toward a more equitable future.","fullyFundedDate":1748884903164,"projectUrl":"project/equal-ground-a-student-study-in-equity/9387259/","projectTitle":"Equal Ground: A Student Study in Equity","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Joe Rohr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1558522_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692229056930","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1558522"},{"teacherId":5026143,"projectId":9032398,"letterContent":"I would like to give thanks for the \"HP Business Laptop\" we received from Donors Choose. Because of you, we've been able to provide meaningful resources that are already making a difference in our students' lives.\r\n\r\nThe moment our students saw the new materials—books, sensory tools, and calming resources—you could see the curiosity and excitement in their eyes. Many of them have struggled with feeling like they belong in a traditional school setting, but having a space that prioritizes their emotional well-being has helped them feel seen and supported. One student, who often struggles with anxiety, told me, \"This is the first time I've had something at school that actually helps me calm down when I need it.\" That's the kind of impact your support has made.\r\n\r\nThese resources have already been incorporated into daily routines. Whether it's using mindfulness activities to start the day on a positive note, engaging in discussions about resilience and self-regulation, or simply having a quiet space with sensory tools available, our students now have what they need to navigate challenges in a healthier way. A recent class project focused on identifying personal coping strategies, and it was incredible to see students open up about their experiences and support one another.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll continue incorporating these materials into our curriculum, focusing on self-awareness, emotional regulation, and building positive relationships. Thanks to your generosity, our students are not only learning but also healing, growing, and feeling empowered.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in our students and making a real difference in their lives.
