Through hands on learning, the students were engaged more deeply than they would through textbooks alone, and research shows that this type of active learning improves both information retention and enthusiasm for science. \r\n\r\nBy dissecting owl pellets, students take on the role of scientists, carefully identifying prey animals such as mice, voles, and shrews using bone identification charts. Most importantly, it provides a clear and memorable illustration of food webs and energy transfer within an ecosystem, helping students understand the owl's role as a top predator in its local environment. My classes are very appreciative of your kindness. Your donations will enhance our learning. We have not started using the items yet. However, we have huge plans for them and the students are extremely excited to have these opportunities. \r\n\r\nWe will be starting our unit on weathering, erosion, and deposition in a couple weeks. The students are looking forward to getting to use the modeling stream for erosion and deposition. This kit will make this lab a lot easier to manage while still letting the kids learn in a hands-on way.\r\n\r\nThe students are super excited and a bit grossed out by the owl pellets. However, they cannot wait to get to dissect them.\r\n\r\nWe will using the clay, soil, and milkweed seeds during Earth day. We will be using them to create seed bombs. The students will learn about protecting our environment and helping monarch butterflies. We will talk about how planting milkweed allows butterflies to have access to more food.
