My students are not just learning math; I see them excited about math. Your donation helped to provide a personalized, foundational curriculum that meets each of my youngest learners exactly where they are. It means the world to me that you chose to support this vision, turning our technology classroom into an interactive space where students are happily exploring complex math concepts while building their technology confidence and skills.\r\n\r\nMy students' engagement is truly remarkable. Happy Numbers doesn't just teach; it turns learning into a game, and the joy on the children's faces is my greatest measure of success. As a teacher I am thrilled to see that although the activities are fun they teach students solid math skills such as building number sentences. I am already seeing students who were struggling with basic concepts leap forward all thanks to the individualized learning path this program creates. An example of this is my student that started at the beginning of Pre-kindergarten and has completed 91% of curriculum progress so far. This is equal to 0.91 of the grade level. He is quickly closing the gap!\r\n\r\nWith the limited time on learning during the school day I am able to teach my students the skills necessary to navigate digital applications so that they will be able to successfully compete in the digital world, while collaborating with the homeroom teacher to support the students' math growth. From the bottom of my heart—and on behalf of every smiling K2 student—thank you for making these happy, successful mathematical beginnings possible.","fullyFundedDate":1746698775746,"projectUrl":"project/little-learners-tech-time-play-explore/9162712/","projectTitle":"Little Learners Tech Time: Play, Explore, Grow!”","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bolden","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6288734_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753286880684","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/carla-bolden"},{"teacherId":1767813,"projectId":9487260,"letterContent":"This year, I enrolled students in the MA Children's Book Award program during the first week of school--for the first time ever! What a difference it makes to start the year with the all of the books already cataloged and on the shelves, ready for students to start reading. Which they did!\r\n\r\nBook clubs have also begun. Third grade students are reading Legandarios: Wrath of the Rain God by Karla Valenti. My 4th graders are reading Katherine Applegate's Willodeen, and fantasy / ecological cautionary tale. There are so many 5th grade students in my book club that I had to split them into two groups, one reading the mystery series The Swifts; while the other is learning about the Louvre heist of 1911, when the Mona Lisa was stolen (and yes, we did have a good conversation about the most recent theft!) If you love a good heist book, I highly recommend The Mona Lisa Vanishes by Nicholas Day, for kids and grownups.\r\n\r\nI am so thankful to each of you for supporting my students and their literacy development. Before, everything was crammed and hard to find, but now, the children can independently select materials. \r\nWhen the students first walked in and saw the cabinet holding all their favorite supplies, their eyes went wide, and their little faces broke out into the biggest, most genuine smiles! \r\nThey were so excited that they immediately wanted to help put things away, carefully arranging the crayons, sorting the books, and setting up the math manipulatives. This project that you funded allows my students to gain direct instruction in typing skills without the distraction of advertisements. The skill of typing is essential in their future success as they are a part of a completely digital generation and they must not only gain knowledge from technology but produce information on digital platforms. Much of their classwork and most of their assessments are currently online requiring them to share their knowledge through typing.\r\n\r\nThis renewed subscription will be used by 1st and 2nd grade students in my class and 3rd and 5th graders with their homeroom teachers. If you are not aware, the 1st grade goal is 5wpm with a 95% or better accuracy and the second grade goal is 10wpm with the same accuracy expectation. Unfortunately, as the technology teacher I only teach technology up to 2nd grade and therefore it is vital that I lay a solid foundation that the students can continue to grow from when they leave me to apply their skills and continue their practice independently in the upper grades. \r\n\r\nAll of my students in the lower and upper grades love using Typing.com because it has a balance of lessons and gamified activities to support their growth. Many students will use this app when they are given free choice time in their class. Due to the two years of using this ad-free version of the app, my students have developed great typing skills at a wonderful rate. My September data from the 2nd grade class, which has benefitted since last year, started with 9% of students already Meeting or Exceeding their current End of Year Goal and 27% Approaching the End of Year Goal. I called this project Tiny Classroom Problems because in a small room like ours, even one blank wall can mean missed opportunities for function and organization.\r\nNow, those two new cabinets sit directly next to our existing ones, creating a cohesive storage wall that makes sense visually and practically. We use them to store writing materials, art supplies, and hands-on learning tools that used to be crammed into shared spaces or stacked in random bins. When the kids first saw the cabinets go up, they were genuinely excited. One child even said, \"Now we have more room!\" And it's true—by clearing off surfaces and minimizing clutter, the cabinets created more usable space for learning. My students are so excited to start learning embroidery. A group of 4th grade artists originally asked to learn how to sew because they saw a project that a classmate was doing. Unfortunately they did not know that their classmate already had some basic sewing skills from home. I agreed to start a small sewing group with them but I showed them the new embroidery tools and explained that there is a close relationship between sewing and embroidery. We looked at a couple of samples of embroidery and they were excited because they knew that they got to be the first students to use the materials. I explained that if we started with embroidery they would learn the basic skills needed to start sewing. SOLD!!! Since then we have been working in our small group to learn the basics. They are so proud of what they have learned so far and have actually begun to assist each other when stuck. SUCCESS!!!! Several other students in the class have begun to show interest and will probably start in another group.\r\n\r\nThe images I have shared are from the first few lessons we have completed. My artists are now confident with selecting their own embroidery floss as well as threading and knotting their own needles. We are using larger plastic needles to start. They have also demonstrated their ability to put their own fabric into a hoop, create a template with chalk, do a running stitch and a backstitch. We are now working on a woven rose. They all drew and embroidered the inner wheel and we will continue in our next class. They had great ideas about two tone flowers or creating something else with the same stitch. Their creative ideas are flowing and their confidence is growing!\r\n\r\nI think next year I will start an entire class on an embroidery mini-unit so that they all get the basics and can branch out from there into sewing or more advanced embroidery techniques if they would like to go further in the fiber studio.
