I have already used The Great Gatsby novels this marking period. Having these novels allowed me to give every student in classes a novel and pass my old ones to the other 11th grade teachers. We did not have to make photocopies of chapters or worry about missing copies. Also, for once, all my students had the same edition, which made teaching much easier.\r\n\r\nWhen I move on to the other units at the end of the year, I will use those novels.\r\n\r\nFor all the units, students use close reading skills, improve their reading comprehension, and become better readers and writers. This helps all students prepare for college and/or career. They enabled me to create a display that incorporated books already in my collection along with these new books. This display also included local and national phone numbers for students to call for help with trained crisis counselors for behavioral and emotional issues along with suicide intervention.\r\n\r\nHigh School students do not like to ask for assistance so having the resources sitting front and center when they enter the library has been a great conversation starter. Students were able to check out fiction and non-fiction books about a variety of social emotional topics. They could also privately take the phone numbers down for when and if they may need help. \r\n\r\nA number of students have commented to me how much the resources available have helped them individually and even helped some of their friends. I really appreciate being able to create this display for my students using these new resources.","fullyFundedDate":1760586205854,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-project/9828205/","projectTitle":"Literacy Project","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McKnight","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7657081"},{"teacherId":10311822,"projectId":9828376,"letterContent":"The supplies from this project has really reinvigorated the vibes in our classroom. The students were extremely excited every time a new box showed up at our door. With each new book added to our bookshelves, it started so many conversations about the \"why\" behind the books that I chose. \r\n\r\nFrom the graphic novels to the young adult literature, this project has helped introduce my students to so many new ideas and worlds. We have extra credit assignments where students can choose to read a grade-level book outside of class, and this project has given them so many more choices that they may not have known about or been able to access previously. \r\n\r\nWith these books the students are now able to expand their horizons through fiction and non-fiction texts, and that's all thanks to you!","fullyFundedDate":1760659717509,"projectUrl":"project/mr-fishers-classroom/9828376/","projectTitle":"Mr. Fisher's Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Fisher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10311822"},{"teacherId":10312726,"projectId":9830373,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom. I am so excited to tell you about some of the lessons I've been able to implement using our new materials.\r\nIn 10th grade, students have an entire unit on rhetorical analysis. Learning and identifying rhetorical devices can be pretty tricky; but, using our new mini white boards, we were able to do a quick-check lesson! Students followed along with the reading, and when we paused to identify a device, they wrote their answers on their white boards and held it up for a check! They had so much fun, and I got to see them get engaged and compete with each other to find the correct answer faster.\r\nIn 9th grade, students will soon be reading \"Lord of the Flies\". One of the important topics we cover is symbolism--what images have significant, symbolic meaning? To help students with their analysis, they will be building their own version of the conch shell, and writing about what their item symbolizes. The model magic enables our class to get involved in more tactile, material activities; I am so excited to see how they respond to it!","fullyFundedDate":1760664251228,"projectUrl":"project/mr-craigs-ela-classroom/9830373/","projectTitle":"Mr. Craig's ELA Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Craig","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10312726"},{"teacherId":5606651,"projectId":9820678,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, these books and supplies will help foster a love of reading in the classroom.
