What used to take multiple steps, extra materials, and a lot of imagination on students' part is now clear, visible, and interactive in real time. In science, especially, where concepts can feel abstract and language-heavy, being able to model processes, annotate diagrams, and revisit key ideas visually has made a huge difference. My students are now able to engage more deeply with content because they can see it, manipulate it, and talk about it together. For my multilingual learners and students with IEPs, this has been especially powerful. Sentence stems, visuals, and key vocabulary are now consistently accessible, which has increased both participation and confidence during lessons.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting is how eager students are to come up and use the board themselves. Whether they are labeling a diagram, highlighting evidence for a claim, or interacting with a simulation, they are genuinely excited to be part of the learning in a more hands-on way. I've seen students who are typically more hesitant to participate raise their hands to come to the board, take risks, and explain their thinking. One student in particular, who often struggles with written expression, lit up when given the opportunity to demonstrate his understanding by moving and organizing visuals on the board—he was able to show what he knew in a way that felt accessible and empowering.\r\n\r\nThis project has truly changed the way our classroom feels. Lessons are more engaging, transitions are smoother, and students are more invested in their learning. Most importantly, this SMART Board has helped create a more equitable learning environment where all students, regardless of language, ability, or confidence level, can access and contribute to our science classroom. Your support didn't just provide us with a piece of technology; it gave my students the tools to see themselves as capable scientists.","fullyFundedDate":1767935032843,"projectUrl":"project/smart-board-for-our-scientists/9984643/","projectTitle":"Smart Board for Our Scientists","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pellegrini","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10397258_orig.png?crop=282,282,x47,y10&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767812093572","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10397258"},{"teacherId":4448766,"projectId":10146427,"letterContent":"I wanted to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contribution to our classroom library. Living in a big multi cultural city, having access to the world through social media means that our students are exposed to many more styles of music than I fit into a few short periods a week. Not to mention the songs they hear at home. With 3 basic chords and an instrument, music becomes real time collaborative and organic thanks to a classroom Printer. Student A this morning was dancing a tik tok dance, this young Gen Alpha was dancing to Fleetwood Mac, the original rockers from a generation far from theirs! We jumped on the computer, found the chords to the entire song, printed them out and within minutes two keyboards and a ukulele were accompanying a singer in a new genre. \r\n\r\nA Bad Bunny tune was parodied in a SNL skit, three 8th graders came with the idea that they too could parody it for the theatre teacher. Again whilst motivation was high, lead sheets were printed and off they went into a corner with a guitar, pencils and paper to re write. \r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity the classroom is dynamic, immediately responsive and makes the music alive. Without a printer in the room, it is mere promises of things to come. Music relies on the ordering of printing, the waiting, the very real risk that motivation or attention will move on. Our music making is student centered, represents the community and reflects what artistry is in the the read world.","fullyFundedDate":1752586353331,"projectUrl":"project/the-power-of-playing-the-music-of-your-f/9205967/","projectTitle":"The Power of Playing the Music of Your Family","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sally","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6821147_orig.png?crop=539,539,x76,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1705853648759","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6821147"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_106836","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":282,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":75,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.3,"schoolId":106836,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hamilton Grange Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hamilton Grange Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ms-209-hamilton-grange-open-9-2014-/106836"}
