Many of them immediately gravitated toward the colorful play food and lifelike tools, eagerly exploring the mixer, cake set, and fridge foods. One of our students who typically hesitates to join peer play proudly \"cooked\" a pretend breakfast for his classmates—an incredible moment of social engagement and communication growth. Another student practiced fine motor skills by gripping and turning the mixer knobs, celebrating when he was able to maneuver them independently. These materials have already sparked meaningful, play-based learning moments that blend play therapy interactions, communication, and STEM exploration in joyful ways.\r\nIn our classroom, these resources are now woven into daily learning. During rotations, our students can work together to \"wash and dry\" dishes, sequence steps for baking a cake, and use pretend ingredients to tell short stories or label actions—supporting both speech and literacy goals. The food sets target fine motor strength, bilateral coordination, and purposeful movement, while communication opportunities incorporate the pizza and condiments for requesting, labeling, and cooperative conversation. The play kitchen area has become a shared learning hub where all students—regardless of ability—can participate, succeed, and find joy.\r\nAs we continue building our unit on sequencing, nutrition, and STEM concepts like measuring and comparing, these materials will support even deeper learning. The Lakeshore Teaching Tubs Storage Rack, Mystery Box, and Weather Station have brought so much value to our daily routines. These hands-on tools allow our students to explore science, math, and literacy concepts through discovery and sensory-rich experiences—just the way they learn best.\r\n\r\nThe Lakeshore Teaching Tubs Storage Rack has greatly improved how we manage our classroom materials. Before, our A–Z tubs were not easily accessible and could be overwhelming. Now, everything is clearly organized and visible, helping both students and staff easily locate the resources we need. This level of organization has made it easier to set up independent and small-group activities, and our students are showing greater interest during center time because materials are presented in a more inviting and structured way.\r\n\r\nThe Mystery Box has added an exciting and interactive element to our weekly lessons. While some of our students are non-verbal, we support their communication through visuals, gestures, and assistive devices. Each week, the Mystery Box contains an object related to a theme we're studying—like a pinecone during our nature unit or a thermometer for a science lesson. Staff members guide the experience by offering visual choices and sensory cues to help students explore and build understanding. The anticipation and engagement during these activities are powerful. Even without words or with words, our students express their interest through eye gaze, reaching, smiling, or increased attention.\r\n\r\nThe Weather Station has become a core part of our morning routine. With teacher and staff support, students engage in observing and recording the weather each day using picture symbols and touch-based exploration. We use simple tools to track conditions like sunny, cloudy, rainy, or windy days, and integrate this data into group lessons with weather charts and graphs. Students interact with the tools in hands-on ways—feeling the breeze from the wind spinner or using tactile symbols to match the daily weather. These experiences help make abstract concepts more concrete and meaningful.\r\n\r\nWe're also looking forward to integrating all of these resources into our upcoming themed learning weeks, where the Teaching Tubs will support language-rich play, the Mystery Box will be part of a sensory scavenger hunt, and the Weather Station will help guide our science activities. These tools support multiple learning styles and create opportunities for exploration, movement, and communication.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our students have access to engaging, sensory-based learning opportunities that meet their diverse needs. You've helped us create a classroom environment where all learners can grow, discover, and connect with the world around them.
