With the LabPro equipment, motion sensors, and force probes you provided, my students were able to complete all of our motion and force labs in small lab groups, rather than taking turns or watching demonstrations. One of my favorite moments happened during our first full lab day: each group set up their own experiments, tested different variables, and collected real-time data. For the first time, every student had the chance to handle the tools themselves, experiment freely, and truly see the physics concepts in action.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, the reaction was priceless—my students literally **cheered**. They gathered around the equipment with huge smiles, immediately asking what labs they would get to try first. Their excitement was so strong that they spent an entire class period simply experimenting, setting up different configurations, and exploring how the sensors worked. Watching them take ownership of their learning and seeing their confidence grow with each trial was exactly the classroom experience I hoped this project would create.\r\n\r\nWith these new materials, the next step for my students is to move toward a fully hands-on, group-centered approach to learning physics. I am now redesigning my lessons so that every major concept—motion, force, energy, momentum, and beyond—can be taught through active investigation in lab groups rather than through demos or shared equipment. Your contribution has opened the door to deeper understanding, richer inquiry, and more authentic scientific learning for all of my AP Physics students. Thank you for making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1762276273539,"projectUrl":"project/labpro-equipment-for-ap-physics/9757312/","projectTitle":"LabPro Equipment for AP Physics","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nemecek","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4936283"},{"teacherId":4073016,"projectId":8872720,"letterContent":"On behalf of our American Literature class, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation that allowed us to receive the Young Adult version of Caste by Isabel Wilkerson. This powerful book has had a lasting impact on our students, both intellectually and emotionally, by helping them explore the roots of systemic injustice and make meaningful connections to the world around them.\r\nAs students read Caste, they engaged in rich discussions and critical thinking about inequality, privilege, and responsibility. One story that especially moved them was the experience of Al Bright, who, as a small child, was not allowed to celebrate with his peers after playing Little League baseball due to the color of his skin. This moment stood out as a powerful example of how racism affects even the youngest members of a community—and it sparked deep conversations among students about fairness, belonging, and how historical injustices shape present-day experiences.\r\nBuilding on what they learned, students conducted research projects on local issues of injustice, such as food insecurity, policing practices, and unequal access to education. They presented their findings through writing and multimedia, using evidence and empathy to advocate for awareness and change. These projects helped build essential academic skills while fostering a sense of agency and civic responsibility.\r\nReading in our classroom has become an active and transformative experience. The Young Adult version of Caste made complex ideas accessible and relevant, especially for students who may have struggled to connect with traditional texts. One student shared, \"This book helped me understand how racism isn't just in the past. It's still part of how things work today.\"\r\nYour support made this learning possible. Thank you for providing the tools that empower our students to read deeply, think critically, and care about their communities.","fullyFundedDate":1734549105188,"projectUrl":"project/window-and-mirrors-books-entering-disc/8872720/","projectTitle":"Window and Mirrors Books - Entering Discussions through Text","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4073016_orig.jpg?crop=716,716,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1568220114123","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4073016"},{"teacherId":4073016,"projectId":8940431,"letterContent":"I can't thank you enough for your generous support of our classroom! Because of your kindness, my high school students now have a more comfortable, engaging, and sensory-friendly learning environment. Who knew putty and fidgets would bring a smiles to teenagers?!!\r\n\r\nSince receiving these materials, we've incorporated them into our daily routines in meaningful ways. The therapy putty and sensory fidgets have been a game-changer for students who need extra sensory support, giving them tools to manage stress and improve concentration. Even the stickers have brought smiles, serving as fun rewards for participation and achievements. Yes, even high school students love stickers and rewards! \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue using these resources to enhance our learning environment. In addition to the sensory tools, the classroom supplies such as wipes, surge protector, and new markers help to create a space where my students can thrive.\r\nThank you for making a difference in our classroom! The calculators are extremely helpful in allowing the students to make connections between our concepts in an algebraic manner (which we tend to solve on paper) to a graphical manner (which we use the calculators.) Since we now have a full class set of clear, functional graphing calculators, we are all on the equal footing when we're discussion shapes of functions, or looking for maximums and minimums of a contextual problem.\r\nMy students were thrilled to have the new calculators so they didn't have to get to class extra early to get a functional calculator, or a calculator whose screen had blacked-out pixels. When the new order came it, we went through our old calculators to see that out of the 36 we had, only 25 of them worked consistently, and 5 of the working calculators had screen issues where you couldn't see all the information. Having clean, functional calculators has given my students a sense of calm and confidence in their work. They know they have the technology support them and help them show off their capabilities.","fullyFundedDate":1733188159112,"projectUrl":"project/calculating-for-excellence/8603230/","projectTitle":"Calculating for Excellence","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Powell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9306453_orig.jpg?crop=1225,1225,x0,y53&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764386639531","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9306453"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37931","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1614,"numTeachers":79,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":28,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.1,"schoolId":37931,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Morse High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Morse High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/san-diego-unified-school-district/morse-high-school/37931"}
