Caring for the garden helped them understand the seasons in a hands-on way. Scooping soil, pinching tiny seeds, spraying water bottles, and soon we will be carefully transplanting seedlings. All of this required coordination and control, giving their small hands meaningful practice. They discussed their observations, problem-solved when a plant drooped, and celebrated new growth as a team.
