I shared the stories with the students and tried to always include some type of interactive process with the students. I received writing/drawing tablets from a previous Donors Choose funded project and the students love to use these after each book to explore characters and settings.\r\nEach book is read to a class and at the end of the book, the students vote for their favorite. These votes are compiled at our school and at the state level to see which book was the most enjoyable. It is delightful to see and hear the students being so excited by a new book. We learned how to use the tablets first and then got down to the business of using them for writing and drawing activities. Using the stylus that arrived with the tablets, the students were given an activity to complete relating to a book that was read to them. The student activities so far have ranged from drawing their favorite character in the book, drawing and labeling the setting for the book, and listing the problems the characters encountered. I anticipate a myriad of activities in the future to complement their learning from our reading sessions.\r\nThe tablets are so easy to use. The students draw and write on them and at the end of the lesson, a touch of one button erases the work. The tablets are easily stored in a charging cart to be ready for the next lesson.","fullyFundedDate":1734367673813,"projectUrl":"project/comfortable-creativity/8581538/","projectTitle":"Comfortable Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Doan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6868037"},{"teacherId":9244260,"projectId":8705911,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the books! While most of these books will not go into rotation until next year, we were able to use Pete the cat valentine book! Before recieving these books I was often having to look them up on YouTube and let it read the books aloud. This week in particular, the physical book came in handy as my classroom was being used for testing and I had to travel and be flexible. This would have been much more difficult with a technology based book. The kids enjoyed reading the book in person and being able to interact with the pages and ask more in depth questions. A few of them even asked to read the book themselves instead of me reading it! I think my students thoroughly enjoyed everything that physical books involve.
