As the boxes kept rolling into our classroom, I opened them one by one, and the room filled with \"oohs\" and \"ahhs\" from my seven- and eight-year-olds. I kept hearing things like, \"Ooh, I like that!\" Their genuine enthusiasm made it clear right away that these resources would be a powerful motivator, and that energy has carried into their daily effort ever since.\r\n\r\nOur second graders are using the new resources every single day as part of our classroom reward system. Students are given the chance to visit the classroom prize box when they meet various expectations, and we've tied it directly to academic growth as well. After completing a math standard, students take a post assessment to show what they've learned. If they demonstrate mastery with a score of 80% or higher, they earn the special advantage of choosing a prize from the box. It has become a meaningful way to celebrate their hard work and reinforce the learning goals we're building toward together.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to expand the prize box to reward positive behavior in addition to academic achievement. While our school does a wonderful job with quarterly PBIS incentives, we want to build that momentum into our daily routine. Each day, one student who is \"caught\" modeling our STAR matrix will earn a trip to the classroom prize box. We're hopeful that this daily recognition will drive all of our students to consistently practice positive behavior and make our classroom community even stronger.","fullyFundedDate":1789608752280,"projectUrl":"project/unlocking-motivation-building-an-exciti/10608311/","projectTitle":"Unlocking Motivation: Building an Exciting Prize Box for Second Graders!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Norton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6584752_orig.jpg?crop=1273,1273,x0,y1096&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1784809592231","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6584752"},{"teacherId":6584752,"projectId":10402309,"letterContent":"\nWhen my 19 second graders returned from Music Class, the excitement in the air was palpable as they spotted a large, mysterious rolled up package in our classroom.
