5th Grade is the first year students have a state mandated Science exam. Many students who traditionally struggle in Math and Reading discover a renewed faith in themselves through success in hands on Science instruction. It is my goal with this project to expose students to a whole new world of Science that not only meets but exceeds state science expectations and predetermined student preconceptions of Science instruction. Creating and connecting real life experiences to the Science curriculum not only helps students learn the material but also enjoy the journey of learning Science as well! With your help providing these materials for my students, they will be able to learn Science in various ways to create genuine, concrete and lasting learning. Students will be able to dissect human body models, demonstrate global wind currents on life sized models, and interact with engaging comic book style graphic novels to explore scientific concepts.
