The new front whiteboard has become a central space for modeling problems, breaking down complex concepts, and showcasing student thinking during whole-class discussions. Paired with the bulletin board, we now have a dedicated area to highlight key formulas, student work, and visual reminders that support learning throughout each unit. One great moment was seeing students reference the board during a lab, using posted diagrams and examples to guide their setup and reasoning without needing constant teacher direction.\r\nStudents were excited right away—having a clean, organized space at the front of the room made the classroom feel more like a true science lab. They take pride in seeing their work displayed and often refer back to the bulletin board when working through new problems. It's helped create a more structured, supportive learning environment where resources are always visible and accessible.\r\nMoving forward, we'll continue using these tools to build stronger connections across units. Students will contribute more of their own work to the bulletin board, creating a living resource wall, while the front whiteboard will support more student-led problem solving and discussions. These additions have helped make our classroom more interactive, organized, and student-centered—thank you for making that possible!","fullyFundedDate":1755921664497,"projectUrl":"project/whiteboards-bulletin-boards-and-big-ph/9515160/","projectTitle":"Whiteboards, Bulletin Boards, and Big Physics Energy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. O'Neal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7984797_orig.jpg?crop=4000,4000,x0,y1000&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1667969252932","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7984797"},{"teacherId":7984797,"projectId":9822224,"letterContent":"Since receiving these whiteboards, they've quickly become an essential part of our daily classroom routine. My students now use them every day to work through problems, sketch models, and explain their thinking in real time. One of my favorite moments recently was during a physics lesson on energy—students worked in small groups at their boards to diagram energy transformations and solve multi-step problems. Instead of waiting quietly for answers, every student was actively contributing, debating ideas, and revising their work as they went.\r\n\r\nWhen the whiteboards were first introduced, the reaction was immediate excitement. Students were eager to get out of their seats, collaborate, and \"try without pressure.\" The ability to quickly erase and revise made them much more willing to take risks, which is something I don't always see with paper-and-pencil work. Even students who are typically more hesitant began participating more openly.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're continuing to build on this momentum. Students are starting a project where they will use their whiteboards to design and present their own problem-solving strategies—essentially teaching mini-lessons to their peers. We're also incorporating more data analysis and experimental design, where students will model ideas visually before testing them. These tools are helping shift our classroom from a place where students simply receive information to one where they actively construct and communicate their understanding.\r\n\r\nYour support has truly transformed how my students engage with learning—thank you for making our classroom more interactive, collaborative, and student-centered.","fullyFundedDate":1760627226991,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-thinking-physics-classroom-w/9822224/","projectTitle":"Building a Thinking Physics Classroom: Whiteboards That Inspire Collaboration","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. O'Neal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7984797_orig.jpg?crop=4000,4000,x0,y1000&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1667969252932","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7984797"},{"teacherId":9203569,"projectId":9906724,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom and helping provide LCD writing tablets and hands-on math tools like flashcards, cards, and dice. Your generosity has made a meaningful difference in how my students experience math every day.\r\n\r\nMy students utilize the new LCD writing tablets daily. For example, during our Scavenger Hunts around the room, it's common to see most of my students using the tablets to quickly test strategies, erase mistakes, and try again without hesitation. It creates a low-pressure environment where students felt comfortable taking risks and sharing their thinking. The math flashcards and dice games have also become a favorite during centers—students are actively practicing skills while collaborating and even turning learning into friendly competitions.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students were eager to try the tablets and were fascinated by how easy it was to write, erase, and keep going. The hands-on tools brought energy into the room, especially for students who typically feel less confident in math. It was wonderful to see so many students engaged and smiling while learning.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped make math more interactive, engaging, and accessible for all of my students. It may be near the end of the school year, but this new board is getting a lot of use during review sessions. \r\n\r\nI love being able to see student work more clearly. The quality of these workbooks is good, and students see the value of working through each practice exam.\r\n\r\nUp to 2021, students purchased their own workbooks or borrowed one from the class set and did all their work on separate work paper. Owning the workbook makes a huge difference in motivation and in the completion of assigned work. I am so grateful that ALL students have their own workbook to write in. \r\n\r\nStudents personalize their workbooks with stickers, notes, and drawings. My favorite thing to see is the color-coding that some do. Some students mark problems that need more review or follow-up in specific colors. Students USE these books and complete all the practice multiple-choice problems.\r\n\r\nUnique to this year was the opportunity to take the workbook on a field trip to see a calculus musical. Last year, BC Calculus students had the actors sign their calculus t-shirts; this year, they had the actors sign their workbooks. It was a great start to preparing for the AP exam. With the Nspire graphing calculators, students are no longer just solving equations—they are visualizing concepts, exploring patterns, and making deeper connections. One exciting moment was when students graphed functions and instantly saw how changing variables affected the shape of the graph. The Play-Doh and markers have become tools for modeling and visualizing complex processes that are often difficult to grasp through notes alone. Students have used the Play-Doh to build and manipulate models of biological and physical systems, while the markers allow them to draw, revise, and explain their thinking clearly on boards, posters, and, my favorite, lab tables. These materials have made abstract ideas tangible and have encouraged students to take academic risks and collaborate more openly.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were genuinely excited. Several immediately asked when we would be using them, and the energy in the room shifted as soon as they realized learning would involve building, drawing, and creating rather than just listening. The excitement quickly turned into deeper engagement as students began explaining concepts to one another using their models and diagrams.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these resources will continue to be a regular part of our classroom. Students are currently using them to refine models, justify their reasoning, and prepare explanations for upcoming lessons and assessments.
