The volleyballs have allowed us to practice our volleyball skills with equipment that is in great condition, helping students build confidence as they learn how to pass, set, serve, and work together as a team. The cleaning wipes are also an important resource because they help us keep our equipment clean and ready for the next group of students. When the students first saw the new volleyballs, they were excited to get started and immediately wanted to practice their skills.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building our volleyball skills through partner activities, small-group games, and team challenges. Students will work on communication, cooperation, and proper volleyball techniques while learning the importance of being active and encouraging their teammates. Just last week, for our first 4 days of school, they were so happy and excited to get to explore the tubs of games and choose which one they would play as well as getting in partners and groups.\r\n I saw them following the directions for the games, taking turns, socializing and having fun during our inside recess time. They were also practicing how to transition from playing with the games to cleaning up correctly, and to show they are ready to move on to our next activity or lesson. The first week of school was a perfect time to go over recess procedures and it was so much more fun with the games than just doing free drawing! The games really came in handy with our inclimate hot weather! They let in enough light that the students can still see but the light has a beautiful blue tint so its less harsh.\r\n\r\nThen they sit on the massive carpet that matches the light covers and is such a soothing blue. This is so much better than the small five by seven carpet that I had before. They love the portfolios we have built in the blue files! \r\nHaving the different colored spirals with matching folders has really been a great help at getting us organized! Every morning when they come in, they take out their red journal and respond to a writing prompt, for example today they wrote about their winter break. We just returned from. Then later in the morning during our writing block, they return to the journal to write a story. It helps them to have their rough draft their revised draft and their edited draft in one plac! Then in back of the spiral, they record vocabulary and sight words. In the red folder, they put any phonics papers, reading passages or unfinished work. This is great because it keeps them from stuffing a bunch of papers in their desk and then losing them.\r\n In the blue spiral they do daily math calendar work, where they apply what we've been doing at calendar as a class. For example they write the date, draw base 10 rods to represent how many days we've been in school, draw coins to show money amounts, solve a math problem, draw a clock to show time and more! At the back of the spiral, they write their math vocabulary words. Additionally, on the inside of the spiral, they have pasted a page they use as a resource with number words days of the week months of the year, etc..\r\nSpirals and folders might seem like a small thing, but they're so important in the classroom!
