Each week, we recorded our observations in journals called My Butterfly. We counted the days that had passed, discussed how the caterpillars were growing, and learned about each stage of their life cycle.\r\n\r\nThe students became very attached to the butterflies and were sad when it was time to say goodbye. These tools help our preschoolers stay focused, comfortable, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nOur students were thrilled each time the doorbell rang to the classroom and a box was delivered. They were so eager for me to open them! They began exploring the flexible seating options and sensory aids immediately! \r\n\r\nThe use of the wobble seat, stools, spinning chair, sitting spots, and curved rockers promote subtle movements while our students attend and engage in various activities at the carpet. They allow them to shift their positions and find what feels most comfortable, rather than limiting their ability to regulate their sensory needs by sitting in one fixed place—which can be very difficult at four and five years old. \r\n\r\nThe fidgets, magnetic fishing game, puzzle, and stacking rocks are almost always requested. They empower our students to transition to the carpet more easily. Additionally, the wiggle feet have been helpful during tabletop activities, helping our students regulate their energy in a positive way.\r\n\r\nLastly, the jellyfish aquarium mood lamp was placed on a shelf near the carpet. Our students love pushing the button to power it on and changing the color to their liking throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nA specific highlight has been observing the students choose which seating option or sensory tool helps them do their best work. Having a wide selection available for our students daily helps boost classroom engagement. \r\n\r\nThe generous support of your donations has done more than supply materials—it has made it possible to meet our preschoolers' diverse learning needs. Thanks to you, they can continue to develop crucial self-regulation skills, positive relationships with adults and peers, problem-solving abilities, language, and positive approaches to learning that will stay with them far beyond our time together this school year.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for taking the time to read our classroom project and choosing to donate. My PreK students love to interact with books, and were so excited to see these new titles join our classroom library. \r\n\r\nThese books have been an important part of my students' learning because they are a mix of fiction and nonfiction. Introducing a complex topic like Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling to preschool age children can be challenging, but I've found that using a combination of fiction and nonfiction books allows the children to access the material in an engaging and relevant way. For example, a favorite has been the fiction book, \"How the Crayons Saved the Earth.\" My students loved hearing me read about the crayons and how they convinced the humans that they needed to clean up and care for the Earth. After I read the book they recalled ways that the characters in the book helped the Earth and then brainstormed ways that they could too. This book paired perfectly with the nonfiction book \"What a Waste,\" that gives information about trash, how humans affect the environment, and what everyone can do to help the Earth. \r\n\r\nWhile my students enjoy being read to, they also like to look through books independently and learn through looking at the pictures. One book from the project that has really made an impact in this way is \"Grace and Box.\" The main character reuses a refrigerator box by turning it into fun things such as a rocket ship, a tent, and a submarine. After looking through this book many of my students have excitedly come to me with ideas for what they could do with boxes that we collected for our Recycling study.\r\n\r\nThank you again! These books have been an amazing addition to our Recycling study that have inspired my students as readers, scientists, and humans that care for the \r\nEarth.","fullyFundedDate":1773336673125,"projectUrl":"project/picture-books-to-save-the-earth/10136013/","projectTitle":"Picture Books to Save the Earth!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Manley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10459222_orig.jpg?crop=1430,1430,x0,y62&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1773110666201","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10459222"},{"teacherId":7822892,"projectId":10020760,"letterContent":"There's no words to express how thankful and grateful my students and I are for the amazing support! What was once a simple carpet and some shelves is now a vibrant, engaging hub where my students are building strength, coordination, and most importantly social skills. The day the materials arrived was so exciting. When the students first saw the trampoline and the ball pit, there were audible gasps and plenty of cheering. The color liquid floor mats were an instant hit; the children were mesmerized, watching the colors shift and swirl under their feet as they stepped. It was a moment of pure joy that set a positive tone for the entire week.\r\n We are using these resources every single day. A specific highlight has been watching the students navigate the hopscotch mat. It's more than just jumping; they are practicing their counting and balance while encouraging their peers from the sidelines. However, the most impactful \"classroom project\" wasn't one I planned. Because this area is so popular, it became a \"high-need\" zone. To manage the excitement, the students worked with me to create a sign-up list and a timer system. They are now learning self-regulation, practicing turn-taking, and respecting their peers' time while eagerly awaiting their own.\r\nAs we move forward, we are integrating these materials into our daily sensory breaks. Our next step is to use the ball pit and floor mats for color-recognition games and \"sensory scavenger hunts.\" By pairing physical movement with our academic goals, we're ensuring that every student stays engaged and energized throughout the school day.
